SUMMARY:  Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Electrical Engineer who will primarily be responsible for assisting in the design, qualification, and assembly of the axiom products. This position reports to Payloads Engineering Manager. This role is onsite and will be based at our ASTC facility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the responsible engineer for a Payloads Engineering product by owning all aspects of the electrical system including design, development, test, and evaluation.
  • Cultivate a knowledge of current ISS payload interfaces and future trends in human-tended payload systems for commercial and government customers in the space industry.
  • Design and develop electrical systems to support the operation of internal or external payload systems.
  • Develop electrical systems (power distribution equipment, schematics, harness buildup, component selection, etc.) to support the test and qualification of Engineering Development units and flight hardware.
  • Collaborate with other avionics engineers on the development, testing, and deployment of embedded software solutions that interface with customers and other spacecraft flight systems.
  • Assist in network capacity planning to support payload user needs.
  • Source flight hardware through coordination with vendors.
  • Lead design reviews of internal developments and third-party designs.
  • Develop component qualification plans and lead execution of plans.
  • Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and SDR
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

Candidates applying for Engineering positions are required to have an engineering degree from an ABET accredited program. For more information on included programs, please visit Home - ABET

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 5 - 10 years of engineering experience in space flight hardware development or a combined equivalent of education and experience
  • Knowledge of internal or external payload facilities (ISPR, Express, JEM-EF, etc.)
  • Knowledge of wiring for various signal types including 4-20mA, 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, RS-485, RS-232.
  • Experience using VISIO and Altium Designer software package.
  • Familiarity with AC and DC power distribution and network design.
  • Knowledge of optical signals over multi-mode fiber and experience with optical fiber measurements and troubleshooting. (OTDR, OSA, power meters VFLs,etc).
  • Spaceflight hardware design background preferred.

Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements 

  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
