Summary: This position will work on-site at our SSDF in Houston, Texas. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing electronics to control and monitor the Axiom Space Station Environmental Controls and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and design electrical test carts in support of space station life support systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Architect & lead design, development, implementation, verification, validation & reliability growth of Electronics based systems & components as applied on ECLSS, working with cross-functional teams in R&D, mechanical design, software, manufacturing, and support for spaceflight
  • Design and analysis of complete digital and analog electronics systems (microprocessors, active/passive component selection, gain signal conditioning, input/output filter design, closed-loop control, A/D and D/A, etc.)
  • Develop schematic and PCB designs
  • Programming and wiring for various signal types including 4-20mA, 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, RS-485, RS-232, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, TTL, Discrete Input, Discrete Output.
  • Create electrical schematics and perform wiring for cable harnessing, data acquisition and break out boxes.
  • Build and test prototypes, debug, and prepare documentation for manufacturing, and support.
  • Active participation in team brainstorming and technical review meetings.
  • Support milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and SDR
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer, Electrical, or other relevant engineering field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Prior experience designing commercial electronics (for space or other industries)
  • Familiarity with data interface protocols and associated hardware such as Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, I2C, SPI etc.
  • Programming and wiring for various signal types including 4-20mA, 0-5 VDC, 0-10 VDC, RS-485, RS-232, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, TTL, Discrete Input, Discrete Output
  • Experience with test hardware such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analyzers, function generators, electronic load banks, power supplies, power analyzers.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical components related to testing fluid systems including solenoid valves, pumps, fans, heater relays, chiller carts, pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTD’s, flowmeters
  • Data acquisition experience (LabVIEW is highly favorable).
  • Understanding of design and test of analog instrumentation systems. Experience preferred.
  • Understanding of design and test of stepper and brushless DC-DC control circuits. Experience preferred.
  • Understanding of design and test of power supply and conditioning systems. Experience preferred.
