Employment and After Care Specialist

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF)

Covering Multiple Counties

Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week

$40,000/Year

Schedule: Determined on a case by case basis

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Provides homeless and at-risk veterans linkages to employment and after care services in order to promote housing stability.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops projects and coordinates with area employers to promote employment for veterans
  2. Conducts cold-calls to employers to seek employment opportunities
  3. Outreaches and coordinates with local safety councils, career and technical schools, and chambers of commerce
  4. Works closely with veteran advocates and participants for employment planning
  5. Outreaches to veterans within the first six months after their SSVF cases have been closed to determine current housing stability and provide referrals as needed
  6. Works closely with the Program Coordinator to exchange data and outcomes per continuum of care policies and grant requirements
  7. Provides advocacy and referrals to community resources as it relates to after-care
  8. Maintains confidential client files and records for both employment and follow-up communications/activities with the veterans
  9. Compiles monthly statistics and reports on employment and after care/follow-up outcomes
  10. Uses client centered model and conflict resolution practices
  11. Uses Motivational Interviewing techniques
  12. Provides crisis intervention when required.
  13. Attends internal team meetings and any other pertinent meetings within the community.
  14. Works cooperatively with all veterans program staff to ensure effective services delivery.
  15. Identifies gaps in services and reports them to Program Director
  16. Completes other tasks as assigned by Program Director.
  17. Complies with the agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state, and local requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills

2. Willingness to learn and apply best practice models as appropriate

3. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability if applicable; reliable transportation

4. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience working with low income, homelessness and veteran populations preferred.
