About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga

Our Histology department is currently looking for two experienced Medical Laboratory Technicians with a broad knowledge of diagnostic histology. The hours are 40 per week Monday to Friday and the role requires participation in general histology duties including:

• Histology reception, registration, tissue processing and disposal
• Fresh Tissue Procedures eg frozen sections
• Embedding and Microtomy
• Staining (including special stains and immunohistochemistry staining)
• Slide assembly & Quality control checking including archiving
• Equipment maintenance
• Tissue dissection

This is an exciting time to join our Histology service as we look to complete laboratory redesign works and implement innovative technologies in the next 6-12 months.

• The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines
• A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Excellent attention to detail, with good record keeping skills
• The ability to work independently, while in a supported role
• Registration as a Technician with the Medical Sciences Council and a current Annual Practicing Certificate is desirable.
