Elementary School Principal
POSITION SUMMARY
Awaken Christian Academy staff are committed to being Christ-centered, biblically based, Spirit-led, ceaselessly praying, community-serving, diversity embracing, God-glorifying, as well as an excellence striving community that is filled with God’s love. As such, each staff member is a part of the ministry by teaching the Bible, praying for and with others, and carrying out the vision of Awaken Las Vegas. The Elementary Principal works with the Superintendent in the oversight of the Elementary School, spiritually, educationally, and administratively. The Elementary Principal reports directly to the Superintendent of the school.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of successful leadership experience.
Education
  • Must hold at minimum a BA/BS degree in education.
  • Must hold at minimum a Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership/Administration.
Certification/ Licensure
  • Must hold at minimum ACSI Standard or Professional Secondary Principal Certification
  • Must be CPR/First Aid/AED certified within 90 days of hire.

  • Must have a heart for the mission and a drive of Awaken Christian Academy
  • Must have a strong alignment with Awaken Las Vegas, attending weekly services.
  • Must be dependable, hardworking, innovative, and capable of working independently.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accountable to the Superintendent
  • Keep abreast of current trends in education (General and Christian)
  • Work with the superintendent to develop and maintain a campus that is thoroughly and distinctly Christian.
  • Maintain the philosophy of Awaken Christian Academy on and off-site.
  • Work with the superintendent to develop and maintain a school that integrates Biblical principles into the daily educational regimen.
  • Work with the superintendent to develop and maintain a school that is academically excellent.
SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend weekly services at Awaken Las Vegas and maintain a strong presence in the body.
  • Seek God’s wisdom on a daily basis, answer questions in alignment with the Bible.
  • Clearly present the Gospel, the good news of salvation whenever the occasion arises.
  • Ensure that the teachers grow spiritually and develop a philosophy of Christian education.
  • Lead, initiate, and participate in prayer with students, co-workers, and families as needed.
  • Encourage teachers to be aware of and intervene in the spiritual needs of their students
  • Be aware of and provide opportunities for parents to develop Biblically based child-rearing skills.
INSTRUCTIONAL
  • Provide teachers with opportunities for educational development and input.
  • Oversee the new teacher induction program.
  • Lead the elementary faculty in curriculum development.
  • Encourage the teachers in peer development.
  • Work with the superintendent in all facets of school: scheduling, teachers, and facilities.
  • Work with elementary faculty in identifying and resolving educational issues.
  • Assist the school in maintaining ACSI accreditation.
  • Chair curriculum committee.
  • Provide Classroom Instruction as needed.
SUPERVISION
  • Develop a schedule for observations, evaluations, and reporting.
  • Support and lead the faculty in attaining the objectives of the school.
  • Work with the Secondary Principal to supervise the instructional process in the school.
  • Support the Dean of Students in regulating and enforcing student discipline per the Handbook.
  • Assist in the yearly development of the Handbook.
  • Uphold and promote the use of the handbook by teachers and staff.
ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT
  • Work with the Safety Committee to ensure buildings and grounds are safe and maintained.
  • Work with Admin Support Team to maintain inventories of books, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Work with the Registrar to ensure student records are accurate and properly stored.
INTERACTION
  • Continually communicate and promote unity within the school.
  • Available to students, teachers, and parents on a regular basis
  • Attend extra-curricular activities on a regular basis.
  • Communicate and respond to parent concerns in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the church staff.
PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION
  • Assist in the recruitment and maintenance of faculty and staff.
  • Evaluate and work with the Secondary Principal to write performance reviews of elementary teachers.
FINANCE
Assist Superintendent in:
  • Working with the development of the school budget
  • Maintain facilities and equipment within the budgetary structure.
  • Keep books and supplies in stock and within budgetary allotments.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure coverage for Before/After School Program
  • Work with Library staff for program development.
  • Work with the Secondary Principal in development of the Summer Enrichment Program
WORKING CONDITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have manual dexterity in arms and hands to reach, feel, touch, and grab.
  • Must be able to constantly maneuver around.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have specific vision abilities which include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
  • Must be able to work around and with moderate noise levels.
  • Must be patient and be able to respond calmly and make rational decisions.
