Avon Middle High School is seeking a Guidance Counselor for the 24-25 School Year. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Counsel students, individually and in small groups, in need of developmental or interventional assistance with normal social, emotional, behavioral, or educational growth.• Oversee and develop guidance program for students to feel safe and welcomed. • Assist teachers in providing an effective learning environment for students in the classroom.• Refer students in need to available school services such as special reading, adapted physical education, counseling, needs assessment, or a TEAM evaluation.• Refer students and/or his/her family to outside services not available in the school system. Serves as a liaison person between the school and outside agency by following up on the progress of students.• Serve as consultant in other school areas such as curriculum development, testing, placement, pupil screening and evaluation, career education and in-service workshops.• Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with new trends, practices, skills and legislation in the areas of School Guidance and Counseling and School Psychology, and attends appropriate professional conferences.• Communicate the role of the counselor to the school and community.• Consult with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by guidance and psychological services, and to improve the educational prospects of individual students being counseled.• Maintain student records, and protects and assure their confidentiality.• At the SECONDARY LEVEL: - Assist students in planning educational programs. - Assist students with post-high school work and vocational and educational planning. - Provide career counseling and information to all students at the secondary level, as needed.• Perform other tasks and assumes other appropriate responsibilities as directed by the building principal or administration.
