Our Controls Engineer II / Control Engineer III works on projects developing and executing process control system integration in and around North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park (RTP).

Job Type: Full-Time

Location: Remote-first with work in customer facilities as needed. Up to 25% regional travel for those in or within 45 – 60 minutes of RTP/Raleigh, North Carolina. Preference will be given to candidates based in Raleigh and surrounding areas. Relocation assistance available for highly qualified candidates.

Salary: Commensurate with education, and experience

On a typical day you will:

  • Coordinate with Lead Engineers and Project Managers to execute project tasks, report task status, and provide execution feedback and project risks to help execute the project.
  • Work on project deliverables such as Design Specifications, Architecture Drawings, FAT/SAT Protocols, HMI Applications, Control Strategies, System Configuration, and Information Solutions.
  • Attend daily project meetings, client review meetings, and or internal project review meetings.
  • Execute and support FATs or onsite SATs and start-up and commissioning activities.

We are looking for someone with a solid background in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical preferred) and at least five years of experience in the process control industry, specifically in Pharmaceutical/Life Sciences.

Requirements:

  • Controls Engineer II requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in process controls and systems integration. Controls Engineer III requires 10 years’ experience.
  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline or other related field or equivalent work experience and training
  • Experience with various unit operations in a biomanufacturing setting, including a mix of the following: upstream, recovery, downstream purification, clean utilities generation/distribution, filling/finishing, and/or packaging/warehouse logistics
  • Experience with configuring, programming, and networking PLCs and DCS controllers (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Emerson DeltaV)
  • Proficiency with ISA-88 standard and batch programming
  • Proficiency programming, configuring, and networking with SCADA and DCS software such as AVEVA software, GE iFix, Emerson DeltaV, ABB 800xA, Siemens PCS.
  • Experience configuring, programming, and networking information systems including historians and databases
  • Knowledge of automation/control system networking architecture, thin client configuration and management
  • Experience configuring, programming, and networking HMIs and developing HMI graphics in accordance with ISA-101 standard
  • Experience authoring or editing documentation in a regulated industry environment– preferably experienced in GAMP, and common pharmaceutical/Life-Sciences validation practices
  • Thrive in a fast-paced agile work environment, which requires proactiveness and good communication skills to keep your teammates and clients up to date.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or Technology focused degree
  • A controls/automation engineer, with a minimum of 5 years of overall experience in Process Control / Automation
  • A minimum of 3 years of pharmaceutical industry/operating facility experience
  • Experience in consulting Front-End Loading (FEL) or system integration – a plus
  • Experience with technical management of projects and execution
  • Experience supporting peer development through mentoring and coaching activities – a plus
  • Experience with MES systems, such as AVEVA MES or PAS-X – a plus
