Avenue Planners Corp is Hiring an Outpatient Pharmacy Technician (BAMC) Near Houston, TX

Outpatient Pharmacy Technician Duties: Outpatient Pharmacy Technicians, under minimal oversight in an outlying pharmacy, clinic, or troop medical clinic, shall perform all shared pharmacy technician duties. Additionally, Outpatient Pharmacy Technicians shall perform the following duties:

  • Shall enter prescriptions into the outpatient computer system, reviewing each profile for allergies, drug/drug or drug/food interactions and duplicate orders.
  • Shall obtain a pharmaceutical, prepare package labels, visually inspect the medication in the bottle to be dispensed, verify appropriate medication, and check the printed label affixed to the container against the original prescription for correctness.
  • Shall set the prescription aside for a final check by the supervising government pharmacist(s.)
  • Shall perform standard assays on finished products, verify ingredients, ensure proper labeling is affixed, and assure a pharmaceutically elegant product is dispensed to the patient.
  • Shall call attention to short expiration dates and the unusual appearance of items. Pharmacy Technicians maintain security and limited access of all pharmaceuticals.
  • Shall provide instruction to patients on proper use of medications, referring all questions requiring professional knowledge and experience to a registered pharmacist.
  • Shall coordinate with pharmacists and providers to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions.
  • Shall assist in conducting medication storage area inspections.
  • Shall review stock levels to ensure the appropriate number of pharmaceuticals and critical care items are available.
  • Shall assist with the order and evaluation of laboratory tests necessary to evaluate drug therapy effects and outcomes.
  • Shall receive and process orders for controlled substance prescriptions from, wards, clinics, and pharmacy subsections.
  • Shall check and issue-controlled substances in authorized areas, complete all required issue and control documents, and ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.
  • Shall assist in the initiation, modification, or discontinuation of medications for ongoing therapy of chronic diseases in cooperation with the medical staff.
  • Shall administer prescription or non-prescription drugs according to established agreements and BAMC protocols.

Other duties include the ability to assess patient’s response to drug therapy and planning drug therapy based on physician-established diagnoses:

  • Shall receive and review prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals, to include controlled drugs, on the pharmacy formulary.
  • Shall assess patient’s response prescription or non-prescription drugs according to established agreements and MTF protocols.
  • Shall coordinate with the prescriber of pharmaceuticals to clarify issues or problems with dosing, interactions, or instructions as needed.
  • Prepare replenishment orders, receive incoming stock, check for discrepancies, and rotate controlled and noncontrolled medication stock and supplies.
  • Coordinate stock level changes as determined by increases or decreases in demand and seasonal requirements.
  • Shall enter medication orders into an electronic healthcare system and review orders to identify allergies, interactions with other substances, and duplicate orders.
  • Shall perform standard assays on finished products, verify ingredients, verify proper labeling, and ensure a pharmaceutically elegant product is dispensed to each patient.
  • Shall operate, maintain, and assist other staff members on common and specialized instruments, to include pharmacy PYXIS machines, point of use medication cabinets, and other equipment.

Expierence: Shall have a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last five (5) years providing services as an outpatient pharmacy technician.

Education: Shall be a graduate from a formal pharmacy technician program accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or a formal pharmacy technician program (i.e., technical, hospital, or retail- based program) or a formal medical services training program of the United States Military.

Certifications: Must be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), or Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (Except).

Shall have and maintain a current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
