Job Title: Manager - Vegetation Management
Reports To: Senior Director, Electric Operations

Location: Ithaca, NY; Binghamton, NY; Liberty, NY; Oneonta, NY; Brewster, NY; Mechanicville, NY and Plattsburgh, NY.
The base salary range for this position is $107,254.00 to $139,431.00 and is dependent upon experience and location
Job SummaryHas direct oversight of the NYSEG/RGE Electric Distribution system maintenance. Additionally, this position will support the development, direction, and coordination of all corporate vegetation management programs to ensure they are cost-effective, environmentally acceptable, and customer-focused. Acts as Company contact with state or federal agencies for issues related to vegetation management. Responsible for program planning and budget management.
Major Roles & Responsibilities
  • Develops corporate policies, procedures, and specifications for vegetation management programs to ensure uniform practices and regulatory compliance. Audits a wide variety of field operations to ensure corporate standards are met and are contributing to corporate goals.
  • Develops contract specifications and negotiate contracts related to vegetation management. Manage contract specifications.
  • Develops and maintains a system of records that measures line clearance and vegetation management costs, productivity, and effectiveness. Coordinate training of line clearance personnel.
  • Review all local, state, and federal laws and regulations that impact the Company’s Vegetation Management Program and ensure compliance. Testify at hearings or in court cases as required.
  • Recommends, justifies, tracks, and administers vegetation management budgets and develops revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Promotes community forestry to address utility line clearance within service territory and develops programs that promote a positive environmental image.
  • Coordinates movements of tree crews during power restoration efforts. Provides presentations on utility vegetation management.
Job RequirementsEducation & Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Studies, or Biological Studies with 5 years relevant experience required or associate degree in Forestry, Environmental Studies, Biological Studies with 7 years relevant experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of current utility arboriculture practices and herbicide technology including bare groundwork, mode of action, and application methods.
  • Knowledge of proper pruning techniques and national standards.
  • Knowledge of Company circuits, protection devices/power delivery systems, corporate policies, and construction standards.
Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work effectively with business software applications.
  • Able to budget, allocate resources, and monitor spending for diverse programs at remote locations.
  • Strong managerial skills.
