AWC is hiring Management Trainee! You must be able to relocate to all 50 states & also ability to move geographically frequently. Currently we have locations in Washington, California, Oregon, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Texas, Maryland, South Carolina plus some in Canada. This position will be training at our locations.

We would like to clarify this Management Trainee. This position would be training to become a supervisor. The position will be working a facility that need support. The position would be dedicated to the location for an undermined period. For example, the position may spend 6 months at one location, then be required to move to another facility. Thus, the trainee must be willing to move geographically frequently.

Summary of Position:

​Management Trainee will be responsible for working in each area of a facility to learn to prepare for the next level. The Trainee may be responsible for organizing, scheduling staff, and directing the day-today operations of all associates. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of the operations including rail. This position coordinates activities of associates under the direction of the District Manager or Terminal Manager/Operations Manager to ensure a well-coordinated, productive operation.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Tasks:

  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of personnel in his/her assigned department
  • Direct the facility's day-to-day activities
    • Oversee accessory installation operations
    • Oversee rail unloading and loading operations
    • Oversee vehicle movement as it pertains to the shop's operation
    • Oversee updating accessory installation information into Vehicle Inventory System
    • Oversee quality inspection of accessory installations
    • Oversee yard management and movement of vehicles
  • Drive vehicles on to rail cars
  • Secure Vehicles on the rail car using chocks or chains
  • Ensure personnel have the support, tools and supplies needed for efficient operations
  • Conduct audits and make suggestions for corrective actions as needed
  • Ensures new personnel receive the appropriate training
  • Create, log and report daily hours and other data on Excel spreadsheets to appropriate administrative support personnel
  • Track and log individual associates' production data
  • Document performance issues and coordinate all corrective action with Terminal Manager
  • Responsible for enforcement and administration of company Handbook or Collectively bargained agreement
  • Responsible for enforcing safety practices in order to provide a safe, clean workplace for all personnel within the regulations of local, state, and OSHA standards
  • Complete daily reports of progress in productivity and quality objectives
  • Approve hourly associate work hours, to ensure accurate weekly payroll
  • Provide reports as requested for customer
  • Report accidents and injuries on appropriate forms and communicates the procedure to all appropriate customers/vendors and AWC personnel
  • Conducts accident investigations
  • Responsible for safety programs in order to provide a safe, clean workplace for all personnel and within the regulations of local, state, federal, and regulatory standards
  • Conducts time studies and man-minute reports and evaluates associates according to standards
  • Assists in the facility budget process
  • May interface with the Customer to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that process is in compliance with customer quality requirements through daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly audits,
  • Propose and implement corrective actions if needed
  • Monitor customer reports, share with associates issue corrective action
  • Conducts labor/materials cost analysis and coordinates rates with Operations Manager
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
  • Work as part of the team
  • Complete all other assignments as issued by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to communicate with and deal effectively with customers, associates, and general public.
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform a variety of functions requiring considerable exercise of independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience of supervisory/management principles and practices.
  • Possess good planning, analysis, and organizing skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to produce accurate reports and information
  • Drive vehicles with either an automatic or manual transmission
  • Valid driver's license; good driving record
  • Ability to pass driver's safety test at 80% or better
  • Ability to pass the Human Physical Evaluation for rail loading
  • Ability to successfully pass the E-Rail background review and quiz and obtain security clearance
  • Ability to climb exterior ladders
  • Ability to work in confined space
  • Ability to work at height approximately 15 feet above ground
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to push, pull or carry up to 85 pounds
  • Ability to stand, walk and work outdoors in all weather conditions

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to relocate to all 50 states
  • Ability to move geographically frequently
  • College degree preferred 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Good working knowledge of the facility operations
  • Good driving record
  • Must be able to relocate to all 50 states

  • Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills with MS Office; including excel
  • Skilled in the proper use of English, including proper spelling and punctuation.

Preferred Requirements:

  • College degree preferred 
  • Knowledge and general ability to apply an understanding of invoicing/billing process, including an ability to perform routine business mathematics and understand accounts payable/receivable.
