AUSTAL USA JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: LOGISTICS ASSOCIATE I Reference JDFUSA622 Approved by: Sr Materials & Logistics Manager Classification: Hourly REPORTS TO: Directly: Logistics Supervisor/Foreman or Warehouse Lead Indirectly: Logistics Manager SUPERVISES: N/A SUMMARY: Logistics Associates receive, inspect, inventory, handle, move, issue, kit and deliver materials in a safe, accurate and efficient manner in the following functional areas Receiving and shipping Warehouse operations Picking Put away Returns Kanban Consumable (Crib management) Work package deliveries Tool management Scrap management DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Logistics Associates shall carry out all tasks issued by the Logistics Supervisor/ Foreman / Manager in a safe and conscientious manner, paying special attention to the quality of workmanship and value time management constantly. Tasks may include but are not limited to: Use the following equipment to handle material: Sit down forklift Standup forklift Picker lift Scissor lift Combi lift Overhead crane Operate Austal owned vehicles (Where applicable) Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervision, management, and customer. Load and unload: Deliveries (internal and external) Work packages Work-In-Process material Receive / pick material against: Pack slips Pick tickets Truck bill of lading Use handheld devices to perform material movement transactions Obtain inventory management system certification to perform: Material receipt Standard receipt Miscellaneous receive material Receive shop orders Receive serialized parts Receive expiration material Move Inventory Parts (MIP) Un-reserved Serialized Expiration material Reserved Cable Inventory location look up Inventory part/s look up Inventory transaction history investigation Part tagging Label materials / tools with: Barcode labels Placards Consumable RFID tags Engraving tool Paint to comply with logistics processes Process material returned from production Shipping (Internal / External) Scheduling carriers Dispatching loads Packing material Acquiring ITAR compliance Providing proper paperwork Meeting Hazmat requirements Deliver material to designated delivery location Mentor and assist in training of associates Follow and record daily 5S throughout work area and as assigned Perform daily inventory audits Follow care and protection and inventory guidelines for: Storage Handling Packaging of material Use software tools to update, record, and submit information related to work tasks Perform special projects as assigned: Inventory consolidation Rack relocation Inventory re-configuration Accurately dispose of recycled material generated by production and material disposition process Perform and record daily equipment checks Safely use handheld tools to: open, close, repair: Crates Pallets Fixtures Work outside of job description as directed by supervisor QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability desired: Minimum 2 years’ warehouse experience desired Obtain and maintain required equipment licenses through Austal USA Logistician experience Ability to communicate basic technical information verbally and in writing Ability to work well in a team Able to collect, sort, and collate data and solve basic problems Able to learn and develop understanding of Austal logistics processes and procedures in assigned functional area Has basic knowledge and ability to perform data entry in the following Microsoft programs: Excel Outlook Access Pass required training and perform ones role in software suite used by the logistics department to include: Industrial Financial System (IFS) Crib Master Dashboard Logistics Information NetworK (LINK) Truck dispatch software Kanban reorder program Box.net Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES: Logistics Associates service the following locations: Modular Manufacturing Facility (MMF) Final Assembly (FA) / Central warehouse Loxley warehouse Vessel Completion Yard (VCY) San Diego warehouse (Assigned as needed) Seattle Warehouse (Assigned as needed) Singapore warehouse (Assigned as needed) Ad-hoc offsite locations as assigned All candidates must meet Austal USA’s basic employment eligibility guidelines: 18 years or older at time of application Able to provide proof of US Person status (permanent resident or citizen) No felony convictions of theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date Willing to submit to a drug screen Willing to submit to a background check High School Diploma/GED or comparable trade experience with comparable trade experience defined as five (5) or more years of experience working in the applicable trade, two (2) years of experience in shipbuilding, or, education in the trade comparable to apprenticeship. Comparable trade experience is defined as warehouse or inventory management. TOOLS: Standard, Combi-lift, extended-boom and reach truck forklifts, pallet jack, Desktop PC, wireless scanner, various hand and power tools, lifting and rigging equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific physical requirements include the following: • Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel. • Perform prolonged standing (2-3 hour intervals). • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. • Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis. • Lift/push/pull 50lbs on an occasional basis (0-33% of the day). • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis (34-66% of the day). • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps). • Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts. • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead). • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment. • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles. • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment. • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards. • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures. • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time (33-66% of the day). • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands. • Able to utilize adequate visual skills. • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down. • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
