Austal USA is Hiring an Automated Panel Line Foreman Near Mobile, AL

REPORTS TO: Automated Panel Line Manager SUPERVISES: Fabrication Supervisors DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary function of the Automated Panel Line Foreman, is to work with the Department Manager to give guidance to the Fabrication supervisors and employees. Responsible to the safe operation and maintenance of the automated equipment on the panel line, including: the plasma cutting, plate forming, profile cutting, One Sided Welder, Stiffener fitting and welding, robotic welding process, micro panel line, and sub assembly areas. Review and develop new work procedures to drive continuous improve. Ensure correct construction and inspection procedures are adhered to and managed timely. Ensure all work is performed to the acceptable quality and accuracy standards Provide constant feedback to Manager/Supervisors regarding: Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale Ensure supervisors maintain daily, and weekly machine safety checks, and that they are completed and documented to the required specifications Ensure equipment is maintained in proper working order and liaise with Site Services and Equipment Vendor to schedule maintenance. Facilitate resolution of routine operating issues with vendor agents. Work with supervisors to ensure all status is captured and time is charged correctly. Work with Project Managers and Production Control Leads to ensure the active plan is accurate and achievable Ensure a safe and clean environment for all employees In conjunction with production management at all levels, ensures safe working practices and good housekeeping are maintained in all areas and ensures Austal’s policies and procedures are followed. Provide motivation, maintain morale and minimize confrontation Review performance appraisals in conjunction with Supervisors Ensure all earned value and rework is accounted for accurately Ensures all time keeping responsibilities are processed and time is allocated daily Ensure all company policies and procedure are understood and followed All other tasks as assigned by department manager. Responsible for the implementation of all production schedules, monitoring and maintenance of schedules in conjunction with Supervisors Monitor CPI and SPI QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: 6 years steel shipbuilding construction experience 3 years minimum experience using automated panel line process and equipment 3 years minimum experience with CNC machine Experience with US Navy contracts and oversight Strong understanding or experience with new work procedure development Excellent people management skills Strong knowledge of Lean Methods and experience implementing these methods Strong analysis and problem solving capabilities Ability to operate a computer and software – Microsoft Office, construction/project management software Exceptional skills in the areas of teamwork, leadership, communication, negotiation, organization, and time management Strong working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e ABS, DNV, GL, NAVSEA, USCG etc.) ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES: The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance is required. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Specific physical requirements include the following: 1. Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel. 2. Perform prolonged standing. 3. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. 4. Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis. 5. Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis. 6. Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis. 7. Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps). 8. Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or man lifts. 9. Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead). 10. Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment. 11. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles. 12. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment. 13. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards. 14. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures. 15. Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time. 16. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands. 17. Able to utilize adequate visual skills. 18. Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down. 19. Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers. TOOLS: Sanders, grinders, cutting torch, mechanized cutting machines, arc gouging, applicable components etc. DIRECTION EXERCISED: Will serve as a mentor to less skilled employees LIAISES WITH: Supervisor, step-up supervisor, foreman and other tradesmen WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
