Austal USA Advanced Technologies operates an Additive Manufacturing research and development facility in Charlottesville, VA and leads the Navy’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Danville, VA. In addition to Austal USA’s tri-hull Independence Class Littoral Combat Ship, catamaran-style Expeditionary Fast Transport ship, and the Navy’s most advanced Unmanned Surface Vessel, Austal USA has recently won contracts to build the US Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutter, US Navy’s Next Generation Emergency Medical Ship, and the US Navy TAGOS submarine hunting steel-hulled vessels among other awards. Austal USA is also building critical modules for the new Columbia Class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. REPORTS TO: Operations Manager SUPPORTED BY: Director of Advanced Technologies Program Managers AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Managing the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of testing procedures on various components. Writing complex test procedures, protocols, and plans to qualify components for service. Reviewing test results to assess ability of products to meet performance criteria and NAVSEA specifications. Supporting Root Cause Analysis efforts. Organizing and leading meetings between the customer and contractor regarding testing programs. Acting as an advisor to the test engineering team regarding tasks and operations, and liaising to other engineering functions and government. Developing technical responses for requests for information. Updating and maintaining test activity logs. QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: Two years related work experience preferred. Excellent analytical, organizational / planning, communication (oral and written), and interpersonal skills are required. A person of high ethical standards who understands the importance and requirements for compliance. Demonstrated ability to multitask and to work collaboratively with other functional groups. Ability to communicate technical material effectively. Ability to work with limited direction in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in the use of standard office computer software including Microsoft Windows and MS Office. Eligibility for a Secret Security Clearance from DoD. TOOLS: MS Office, Manufacturing Execution System (MES) software, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software, Project Management software DIRECTION EXERCISED: N/A LIAISES WITH: All other departments within the company, subcontractors, external customers, regulatory agencies, and suppliers.
