AuSable Valley Community Mental Health Authority is Hiring a Peer Recovery Coach Near West Branch, MI

AuSable Valley Community Mental Health Authority has many opportunities for those looking to make a difference in the lives of our community members by providing beneficial and cost-effective services to our consumers. AVCMHA provides State funded public mental health services to Iosco, Ogemaw, and Oscoda counties in northern Michigan. Services are provided to people with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability (I/DD), a Serious Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), and/or those who may be Seriously Emotionally Disturbed (SED).

The right person will have the ability to demonstrate knowledge of, follow and utilize agency policies and procedures. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule and travel throughout the Board's coverage area and, at times, around different areas of the state. Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Michigan, vehicle insurance as required by Michigan Law, and a good driving record; be a U.S. Citizen or have possession of necessary papers allowing holder to work legally within the United States.

The Peer Support Specialist is an individual with an understanding of and respect for an individual’s unique path to recovery. Using lived experience with behavioral health issues, intellectual/developmental challenges, and/or substance use recovery, Peer Support Specialists must have a demonstrated commitment to the recovery community and will guide, coach and mentor others who are working towards recovery. Peer Support Specialist will provide valuable support and experiential knowledge based on their own wellness and recovery, to deliver cost-effective services, and to act as role models to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences to help provide a welcoming atmosphere, skills training and instruction to individuals to develop an authentic peer-to-peer relationship. Peer Support Specialist will work within a whole health integration program, increasing awareness of the recovery issues and working to create a strong peer support network that encourages mental health consumers to make a positive healthy lifestyle change. Will coordinate and/or co-facilitate groups to include recovery issues, coping strategies, wellness tools and other resources. Peer Support Specialist provides structured, scheduled activities that promote recovery, self-determination, self-advocacy, and enhancement of community living skills.
