Aurora Sustainable Lands is Hiring a Remote Communications Director

About Aurora Sustainable Lands: Aurora Sustainable Lands is a carbon-first company that invests in industrially harvested forests. By conserving and managing these forests, Aurora taps into the oldest and most effective carbon removal tool to offer companies carbon credits that reflect the carbon captured and stored by these lands. Aurora is a joint venture between Anew Climate and a group of equity investors led by Oak Hill Advisors and including EIG and GenZero, among other leading financial sponsors.

General Summary: This new role is responsible for creating and leading the proactive communications strategy and media outreach to drive brand awareness of Aurora Sustainable Lands and increase understanding the role forest carbon projects play in mitigating climate change.

Primary Responsibilities and Competencies:

  • Drive media strategy. Develop proactive press strategy and cultivate and sustain effective working relationships with journalists
  • Write collateral materials, press releases, talking points, FAQs, short-form videos, and blogs that both explain and promote the company’s carbon-first strategy
  • Manage the company's social media presence, including development of regular, compelling posts and campaigns that are effective in engaging and growing our followers
  • Maintain consistent brand voice and messaging across all platforms.
  • Respond to crises or challenging situations quickly and professionally
  • Optimize and maintain the company website, including updates and additions to best showcase the company, highlight achievements, provide an on-brand arrival point for digital campaigns
  • Support Board of Managers meetings to ensure cohesive delivery of key updates
  • Coordinate trade shows, webinars, and conference events where Aurora is a sponsor, exhibitor, or featured speaker

Required Education, Experience, and Certifications:

  • 8 years of proven working experience in digital marketing in a corporate or agency environment
  • Experience in forestry and/or forest-based carbon projects or adjacent industry preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong project management, multitasking, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to develop strong, positive, and constructive relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of social media tools and Microsoft Office Suite, including SharePoint
  • Remote or hybrid position in Chapel Hill, NC, Houston or Seattle offices
