The Pre-GED/GED Instructor provides Pre-GED and GED & College Prepared (GCP) classes to students with varying academic levels while integrating GED, reading, science and math skills. Pre-GED class will be for students who obtain NRS Levels 2-3 on the TABE reading test, while GCP class will be for students who have NRS Levels 4-6 in reading. Learners who obtain NRS Level 1 on the TABE reading test will take EFL 6 class. ABE/ASE instructors teach engaging and student-centered group classes, which include Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. This role incorporates technology into classroom instruction, including administering a distance learning platform for hybrid learners. Instructors will monitor students' goals and progress and address learners’ needs using a variety of resources and approaches.
About the team.
The Adult Education Program at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery's (AMHR) Cultural Development & Wellness Center helps immigrants, refugees, non-native English speakers, and others to gain the skills and knowledge they need to be self-sufficient in their community. Beginning in 2003 as a program of Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC), our Adult Education services have helped thousands of adult students to learn English, pass the General Education Development (GED) test, apply for citizenship, adjust to the workforce, and more. Our goal is to assist adult learners in obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to meet their goals and be self-sufficient. We have a welcoming school community for all adult learners, regardless of their language, educational background, or immigration status. Our Adult Education Program also provides learning opportunities through workforce training, tutoring, and more! Students can receive support from our Wraparound Services Program, Victim Assistance Department, and Behavioral Healthcare Clinic.
Shift. The shift is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. We offer flexible a hybrid schedule where you will work 1/2 time in the office and 1/2 time at home!
Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
About you.
The ideal candidate will have passion and previous experience working with immigrant and refugee populations. This instructor should be comfortable with internet-based computer programs, providing highly engaging online classes to students. Candidates must have at least two (2) years of teaching experience with a focus on adult education. Previous teaching in multi-level / multi-cultural class setting is required. Having an Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) before hire would be a plus, but is not required to get started in the role.

AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, receive an annual influenza (flu) shot, and receive negative TB test results prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations and negative TB test will be required upon your first day of employment. Medical and religious exemptions may be requested for either COVID 19 vaccine, annual flu shot or TB test.
