Description

The Career Navigator at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR)'s Cultural Development & Wellness Center assists with further development and implementation of career training programs and teaches English for Workplace Preparation. The role supports outreach and meetings with current and potential partners in Adult Education, Human Services, Workforce Centers, other local nonprofits and local employers. The Career Navigator provides work-based learning opportunities to enrolled ESL students via job site tours, campus tours, job readiness seminars and other exploratory activities. The role assists students individually with immediate employment needs and develops plans for future college and career goals. One FTE will support 300 learners annually. This staff member will also be physically present at the four one-stop centers to ensure seamless and integrated service delivery.

Shift. This position is fully on-site working Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

  • On-site at Arapahoe/Douglas workforce center in Aurora, once a week, for 8 hrs
  • On-site at Adams county workforce center in Westminster, once a week, for 8 hrs
  • On-site at Weld county workforce center in Greeley, once a week, for 8 hrs
  • On-site at Denver county workforce center in Denver, once a month, for 4 hrs
  • Thursdays: Field Trips and Lab Time with Workforce Preparation class (at MLK, job fairs, pre-apprenticeship program tours, workforce center tours)
  • Fridays: Workplace English Workshop (online, 9:00am-11:00am)

Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.

  • $21.61 - $32.42per hour

Bilingual Language Differential Pay. *rate depends on language requirements for the position and candidate's fluency.

  • Will receive scheduled earnings on a bi-weekly basis for all hours worked (excluding non-productive hours paid but not worked, e.g., paid time off, holiday, administrative, etc.) in an amount equivalent to 5% of their regular base rate (hourly or salaried), to a maximum amount of $3,000.00 per calendar year. *the annual maximum amount will be prorated based on full time equivalency (FTE).

About the team.

The Cultural Development & Wellness Center's Adult Education Program helps immigrants, refugees, non-native English speakers, and others to gain the skills and knowledge they need to be self-sufficient in their community. Beginning in 2003 as a program of Asian Pacific Development Center (APDC), our Adult Education services have helped thousands of adult students to learn English, pass the General Education Development (GED) test, apply for citizenship, adjust to the workforce, and more. Our goal is to assist adult learners in obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to meet their goals and be self-sufficient. We have a welcoming school community for all adult learners, regardless of their language, educational background, or immigration status.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, coordinate and support learning and development initiatives for the Adult Education Program.
  • Conduct individual meetings with students to discuss & develop long-term career goals, identify passions & strengths to determine potential career fields.
  • Organize & facilitate biweekly workshops on resume writing, job applications, etc.
  • Create & maintain a Monthly Newsletter to share relevant employment opportunities, workforce center resources & classes, career navigation FAQs, etc.
  • Create, facilitate & host a job resource fair at Alton St. Also attend job fairs, maintain ongoing outreach and communication with employers, guest speakers, and tours.
  • Collaborate with instructors to design instructional modules, sessions and materials with consideration for varied learning styles.
  • Utilize and review various instructional delivery technologies.
  • Organize department-wide training for instructors as needed, in classroom settings and online delivery formats.
  • Assess and report local program performance.
  • Gather data regarding teacher and student needs. Conduct outreach and assist with registration and testing.
  • As needed, teach engaging and student-centered group classes, which may include job skills/workforce curriculum and College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Research pre-apprenticeship opportunities, guest speaking, tours
  • Data Collection: employment & earnings for current & exited students
  • Provide application support and coordinate college tours.
  • Attend weekly meetings with workforce center staff: get to know their employees & their various roles & responsibilities, share resources & information
  • Create & maintain a spreadsheet for referral tracking; partner with workforce centers to set up referral code system
  • Organize & host bi-annual cross-training for each workforce center
  • Attend workforce center partner meetings and events. 

Qualifications


Requirements:

  • Required: Bachelor's degree (preferred in a related field)
  • Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA), or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience with emphasis on adult education.
  • Previous experience teaching or training adults in a classroom or in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching multi-level and multi-cultural classes
  • Experience developing and delivering contextualized ESL instruction and/or integrated education and training
  • Preferred languages: English Spanish, French, Arabic, Dari, or Burmese

Required Vaccinations and TB Test.

AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, receive an annual influenza (flu) shot, and receive negative TB test results prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations and negative TB test will be required upon your first day of employment.
