Purpose

Financial Planning and Strategy: Financial consultant to the Director of Finance and other Center directors. Responsible for overseeing and conducting complex accounting and finance functions for the Center. Collaborate with directors, managers, and staff in strategic planning and fiscal short- and long-term goal setting, including those to meet both University and Center goals. Develop department's annual operating budget including endowments, grants, and general operation funding. Work with directors and provides expertise for fiscal forecasting process.

Budgeting and Reporting: Deploy and track area, production, and operational budgets. Review and evaluate team activities and implement changes to improve and maintain the effectiveness of team operations in relation to financial activities. Establish and maintain financial procedures, reporting, account structure, and approval framework for the center. Develop procedures for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial accounting data. Prepare ad-hoc financial reports as needed by director of finance and team leads. Initiate reconciliation process and monthly expense account certification. Assist with managing year-end closeout and roll-forward activities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all Wildflower Center accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions are processed accurately and timely according to UT's accounting policies and procedures.

  • Work closely with Center directors as a subject matter expert in grant management process (especially post-award). Monitor account balances, monthly reconciliations, and distribute financial reports as needed to PIs (Principal Investigators) and interpret budgeting-related financial data to advise team on strategic and appropriate fund use.

  • Serve as department contact for UT Accounting system. Maintain routing system for electronic documents. Prepare correcting and transfer documents. Work with staff PIs to monitor their grant accounts.

  • Execute the entry of the data of the annual budget into the accounting database. Transfer funds within and between accounts. And ad-hoc analysis as assigned: prepare statements, reports, estimates, and/or projects as requested. Provide accounting and financial support and services to various teams and leadership team as requested.

  • Compile/add to the Standard Operating Procedure for the team as a living document of reference. Optimize accounting processes to better support and achieve the Center's mission and values.

  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge and skills. Process and oversee the department's administrative requests related to procurement, contracts, and budget/coding questions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in finance or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting and financial analysis.

  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial data.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and on multiple projects and within a team, and under pressure of strict deadlines.

  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience working with complex Excel spreadsheets and large amounts of data.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to take initiative.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience at The University of Texas or other college or university.

  • Interest in nature, conservation, and the environment.

  • Compassion and integrity.

  • At least three years of experience at UT Austin.

  • More than five years of related experience.

  • Previous audit, budget, and/or reconciliation experience.

  • Experience with DEFINE, Workday, FRMS, UT Market, PointPlus, and IBM Cognos business intelligence suite. Work experience at UT Austin and knowledge of the university's business policies, procedures, and account structure.

Salary Range

$50,000 depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment.

Work Shift

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm

  • Occasional evenings, weekends and holidays may be required for mission-related events.
