This is an overnight pet sitter position whose primary role will be to provide overnight stays during the week and weekends. It would also be ideal if you were available to provide services during the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years holidays.
You would be joining an established, growing, professional pet care company providing primarily overnights, with the option, for the right candidate, of providing pet sitting visits, dog walks, and dog hikes to the greater Asheville area. This position offers a unique opportunity for growth, and while there will be a small, steady amount of work initially, as our company continues to expand and more work becomes available, there will be more pet sitting and dog walking opportunities for the right person.
The Pet Care Specialist will provide services to Auntie M Pet Care's clients ranging from initial client intake (meet and greet), pet sitting visits, dog walks, dog hikes, overnight pet sitting stays, nail trims, transportation of pets to and from hikes/walks, cleaning of pets prior to return to owners, and any other services relating to caring for pets.

What the job entails:
- Overnight stays in the client’s home ranging from 1 night to 3 weeks
- Providing visits, walks, hikes as your schedule allows
- Driving to and from client homes
- Meet and greets with clients, some are solo some with other team members
- Walking or hiking dogs on leash (and off at yours and the client’s comfort level), on pavement, trails, and up steep terrain
- Cleaning of pets after walk if they become dirty
- Playing/interacting with pets to keep them engaged
- Feeding pets, refreshing water, and administering medications as needed
- Cleaning of litter boxes
- Picking up and disposing of pet waste, and cleaning up any other messes as needed.
- Plant care in addition to pet care for overnights
- Mail/paper pickup
- Clean up after self and pet(s) when in client’s home, including wash and put clean sheets back on the bed prior to end of overnight
- Follow specific care instructions provided by pet owner
- Confidentiality and respect of clients’ personal homes and safety- no unapproved by client additional visitors
- Sending detailed updates with photos to clients via the Time to Pet app
- Communicating with the Auntie M team via Slack
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Pet/animal lover
- Experience working with pets in a casual or professional setting
- Friendly and clear verbal and written communication
- Ability to build relationships with clients and pets to ensure mutual satisfaction
- Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
- Flexible scheduling including evening, weekend, and holiday availability (holiday compensation provided)
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and with consistency
- Ability to problem solve in a variety of pet care, transportation, and home related situations
- Reliable transportation (your own vehicle)
- Must have a smartphone for scheduling and communication with clients
- Must be willing and able to learn and use the Slack and Time to Pet apps
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least two years of pet care experience is preferred.
- Previous pet care experience (pet sitting, dog walking, vet tech, training, doggy daycare, and/or kennel tech, etc)
- Comfortable with all breeds of dogs. Experience with a wide range of animal temperaments is desired.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk and control up to a max of 3 dogs at a time
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs at times
- Ability to perform pet care services in inclement weather (rain, snow, fog, etc)
