Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION : Directs the University's 24/7 Communications Center and Dispatch services for the Department of Public Safety. Directs internal and external emergency communication, parking administration and enforcement and all-access control center.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Hires, trains and supervises student employees working within the Communications and Parking areas within DPS.
  • Responsible for scheduling, performance management and the student employment experience.
  • Directs campus parking, including permit sales/revenue generation, parking violations appeals, community and/or special event parking.
  • Provides oversight for all building access software and management.
  • Trains and directs student employees to perform tasks related to access management, including key and fob inventory, tracking and replacement.
  • Assists management with coordinating the Communications and Parking budget, including student staffing and training, vendor software, supplies, and parking revenue.
  • Shares 24/7 on-call responsibility on a rotating basis to respond to emergency situations and/or urgent matters for both Dispatch and Public Safety.
  • Responsible for testing, maintenance, and upgrades of all software related to parking, access control, and dispatch.
  • Assist with investigations as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILTIIES
  • Audits required logs, reports and record maintenance related to communications and infrastructure.
  • Software management and implementation, maintain radio systems as needed.
  • Maintain licensing and compliance through FCC. Maintain all required logs.
  • Manage Switchboard, including frequent updates with staffing changes.
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Orders and distributes office supplies and other materials.
  • Collects and deposits funds related to parking fines and Fob replacements.
  • Evaluation and development of student staff and provides direction to professional Public Safety staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequent phone and computer use.
  • Occasional strenuous physical conditions or potentially extreme temperature conditions, such as medical or security emergencies, indoors or outdoors.
  • Infrequent encounters with potentially hostile or injured person(s) as part of the work environment within DPS.
  • Occasional irregular or extended hours that may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence with an ability to work in a highly diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative, independently manage workflow of self and others, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead/teach/mentor in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Prior training and supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in security, public safety, communications or operations.
  • Experience working on a college or multi-building campus.
  • First Responder, CPR, first aid, and AED certified.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of card access, security and CCTV systems.
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
