About the Job

This summer, the Scholars Academy is seeking a Program Assistant proficient in either Kazakh or Russian to support 3 groups of Kazakhstan scholars arriving in May. The Program Assistant will play a crucial role in facilitating communication and ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for all participants.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
* Translation and Interpretation Services: Provide essential translation and interpretation for Kazakhstani scholars with limited English proficiency, ensuring clear and accurate communication during academic and cultural activities.
* Program Support: Assist in the planning and execution of program curricula and logistical arrangements. This includes preparing materials, coordinating schedules, and ensuring all aspects of the program run smoothly.
* Cultural and Academic Guidance: Accompany scholars during campus visits and cultural/professional outings. Offer insights into local culture and academic practices, and provide support and counseling on study techniques and daily life in the United States.
* Availability: Be readily available to answer questions, resolve issues, and provide support during scheduled program activities as well as in unexpected situations. This may require working during non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
* Fluent in Kazakh or Russian; proficiency in English.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
* Willingness and ability to work on weekends and evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience in translation or interpretation is highly desired.
* Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in public health, social science, agriculture or higher education is preferred.
* Experience in an academic setting or similar environment is preferred.
* Experience organizing group activities.
* Valid MN driver's license.
