Job Description


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for the coordination of undergraduate and graduate programs in education, student advising in the Education Department, and student data management. This position works closely with the department chair, unit leader, graduate program director, clinical experience staff, and department faculty to support the Education Department’s mission to develop knowledgeable, responsive teachers committed to educating all learners in a diverse and changing world. As a liaison between education students and other offices on campus, the person in this role will be integral in recruitment, retention and induction of students at various stages into the education field.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as academic advisor to undergraduate students and graduate students by providing coordination and support to ensure student progress toward degree completion and graduation.

  • Maintain regular communication with students, e.g. registration, deadlines, student inquiries, etc., and with alumni for the purpose of outreach and engagement

  • Partner with admissions, academic advising, financial aid, the registrar’s office, and department faculty and staff on matriculation process for prospective and newly admitted Education students

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement and communicate department wide policies, practices, and procedures

  • Plan and coordinate Education program events, such as new student orientation, guest speakers, faculty led lectures, or special program initiatives

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Admissions to communicate with prospective students about our programs - including but not limited to assisting admissions with information sessions, fairs and events; and reviewing external communication

  • Enter, manage, and utilize department and student data in the student information and degree audit systems, track registration information, and create reports for enrollment management based on this information.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Actively collaborate with the graduate program director, department chair, and other faculty and staff to communicate program related information and updates - including but not limited to program specific press releases and press memos.

  • Stay current with recommendations around departmental commitments to supporting state and local efforts to increase teachers of color and American Indian teachers.

  • Work closely with other program coordinators to develop uniform policies and practices, where applicable.

  • Act as a licensing officer in coordination with the Unit Leader.

  • Assist in coordinating website content.

  • All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Background in Education, Communication, Marketing, or a related field required. (Prefer candidates with experience in an education-related field or higher education setting).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptional organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal and data management skills required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities;

  • Ability to learn, understand, and use Google Suite and data management systems required

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment.

  • Ability to show initiative, organize workflow, manage multiple projects, and handle frequent interruptions.

  • Knowledge of teacher preparation, the Minnesota teacher licensure system, and student advising preferred

  • Typical work environment is an office.

  • Sedentary work for long periods of time.

  • Regular computer and phone use.
