Applicants must reside in (or intend to soon become a resident of) New York State and be admitted to practice law in New York State. In addition, the Public Officers Law requires that OAG attorneys be citizens of the United States. A two (2) year commitment upon being hired is a condition of employment.
The Office of the New York State Attorney General (OAG) is seeking an attorney who is capable of handling significant, complex litigation in the Sex Offender Management Bureau (SOMB) in New York City. The Bureau represents the State of New York in state court proceedings related to Mental Hygiene Law Article 10. Cases in the Bureau frequently present questions of the Mental Hygiene Law, criminal law, constitutional law, agency law, and statutory interpretation.
Attorneys handle all phases of litigation, including trials and must be available for periodic travel to handle matters in Westchester County. Three (3) or more years of post-graduate legal experience is required. Excellent lawyering skills, including research, writing, legal advocacy, and legal analysis are also required. Prior prosecutorial experience is a plus.
