Atmosphere Academy Public Charter Schools is Hiring a School Counselor - HS / 12th Near Bronx, NY

School Counselor

The School Counselor plays a vital role in supporting students social emotional and academic well being by preparing them for the middle and high school experience, academic excellence, high school and college application process and otherwise supporting and developing them to take advantage of future opportunities.

Responsibilities

Counseling Duties

  • Support the alumni program through facilitating workshops for community service hours, tracking community service hours, college tours, tracking their current high school placement and college application process
  • Develop and support the high school and/or college placement process
  • Support with creating advisory/assembly curriculum for the middle and/or high school
  • Support in the transfer process
  • Plan and execute a full-service mentoring program
  • Support the advisory/assembly program by developing lessons
  • Provide intervention and counseling for students and build students' ability to meet the school’s high expectations
  • Provide one-on-one counseling or group counseling as needed to students and families
  • Identify students and family members who may benefit from regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling
  • Conduct regular needs-assessments of current student and family needs
  • Identify external resources and services and referring them appropriately
  • Administer records, documentation, and other compliance activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and admin
  • Uses data to ensure accuracy of attendance records, including verification of forgeries and truancies and/or signing students in/out for the purpose of complying with State laws governing attendance accounting.
  • Communicates with parents, students, staff, etc. in person, by telephone, letter and/or home visits for the purpose of providing information on a variety of attendance issues and meeting district and state absence notification requirements.
  • Assesses student and family needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, educational options, social agencies, community agencies, alternative programs, outside psychologists and other mental health resources with an appropriate follow-up process.
  • Intervenes during crisis situations, participates on school crisis team and helps students process their problems and concerns around academic, emotional, attendance or social problems and plan goals and actionable next steps
  • Assists with communication for outside scholarships agencies and partnerships
  • Assists teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data
  • Presents attendance and social emotional information about students in weekly Behavior and Grade Level meetings
  • Screens telephone calls for the purpose of directing to appropriate personnel and/or taking messages
  • Performs enrollment and un-enrollment with activities, enrichment and clubs with school programs
  • Uses the majority of the time (80%) to provide direct services to students through preventive and responsive services, including individual student planning, and uses the remaining time in development and management, system support and accountability
  • Responsibilities to be fulfilled consistently across grades levels (6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and alumni) students, parents and staff
  • Able to travel between 3 campuses and conduct home visits
  • Support with new student enrollment

Other Duties

  • Any and all other responsibilities as delegated and assigned by the Board of Trustees and the Principal

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
