Our Health Information Management department is actively searching for a Certified Coding Specialist is responsible for the accurate coding of all patient record types. Reviews the medial record to assign accurate, appropriate diagnostic and procedural information for accurate DRG/APR-DRG or APC assignment, maintaining 98% accuracy rate. Selects and sequences diagnoses and procedures, identifies conditions that can affect payment, and assigns optimum DRG or APC in accordance with the latest HCFA/CMS regulations. Interfaces accurate code assignments to the appropriate account number and verifies accurate interfaced data.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have an associates degree in Health Information. AHIMA credentialed Registered Health Information Administrator, Registered Health Information Technician or RHIT-eligible, Certified Coding Specialist- H or Certified Coding Specialist-H-eligible, Certified Coding Associate is highly preferred for the AGH facility side coding environment. The AAPC credentialed Certified Professional Coder with twelve months minimum current HIM/provider office or revenue cycle-related experience is highly preferred for the AGHS provider office coding environment. Will consider Registered Nurse with recent successful completion of a medical coding/billing program curriculum or AHIMA coding certification preparatory curriculum. Must have a thorough knowledge of the Prospective Payment systems and DRG optimization. Must have college level classes in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, basic disease processes, coding mechanisms, coding guidelines and conventions and regulatory agency guidelines. One year of recent or current acute care hospital coding or medical office coding/billing experience highly preferred.
