Atlantic Coast Hauling LLC is an intermodal logistics company, providing intermodal cargo container shipping and receiving, transloading, cross-docking, warehousing, yard storage, and trucking line haul. Located in Portsmouth VA, the company services the ports of Virginia.

This is a HANDS-ON job in the yard. Duties include receiving and unloading cargo from closed shipping containers and equipment from open top containers. The Yard Worker will work with other yard workers, warehouse workers, and crane operators. Duties include:

• Open front gate and warehouse in the morning
• Offload and onload container shipments coming into and leaving ports
• Keep the yard neat, organized, and safe
• Operate fork lifts and other warehouse and yard equipment to load and unload cargo containers and trucks
• Safely store tools and equipment used in loading and unloading cargo containers
• Identify needed replacement supplies, materials, and equipment and coordinate with the office manager
• Assist warehouse workers in preparing cargo for transloading (palletize, shrink wrap, add lot identifiers) to client loads for shipment to final destinations
• Ensure compliance with company warehouse, OSHA, local, state, and federal safety and material handling regulations, and environmental procedures
• Maintain a safe workplace and identify safety hazards to supervisor

Other responsibilities include:

• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned such as taking trash to the dump, cleaning up around the yard, moving container to reposition, etc.

Position Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED, minimum of 3 years previous yard experience
• Have a current driver’s license and own transportation to and from work
• Be knowledgeable and follow safety and quality requirements, and HAZMAT requirements
• Warehouse and yard equipment familiarity (e.g., forklift, yard spotter, hand cart, trucks, trailers, pallet jack, shrink wrapper, etc.); forklift experience is required and forklift certification is a plus
• Familiarity with hand tools and warehouse equipment is required; crane and rigging experience a plus
• CDL license and shipping port and/or railroad line experience is a plus
• Must be able to physically stand, sit, move, squat, walk, and climb during the course of the shift
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or more
• Occasional night and weekend work will be needed
• Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities are a must, transloading is a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities
• Able to think, plan, and work independently with little supervision

Position Working Conditions:

This position requires safety equipment and adherence to safety rules and procedures, the environment is an outside yard and warehouse, with noise, dirt, and constant movement and lifting and stacking. Teamwork is a must, as the applicant will work with a crew of several workers assigned to specific vans or cargo containers. Occasional heavy lifting is required. Work is occasionally inside the warehouse but mostly outside in the storage yard.
