Atlanta Police Foundation is Hiring an Accounting Director Near Atlanta, GA

The Foundation’s programs address the city’s public safety needs, including increasing police visibility, using state-of-the-art technology to fight and prevent crime and working to create strong leaders in the Atlanta Police Department through enhanced training. JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Director of Accounting is responsible for supervising, monitoring, and evaluating all day-to-day accounting activities. In addition, you will establish financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. This position requires the ability to exercise good judgment in planning and accomplishing the goals of the accounting department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Work with VP of Finance & Administration to ensure overall coordination of financial accounting activities.

· Responsible for accuracy in the general ledger and financial statements.

· Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation.

· Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies.

· Prepare monthly summary feedback of financial statements variances to budget.

· Make recommendations for changes as needed and ensure that company policies and procedures are followed.

· Continually focus on improving system efficiencies and other process improvements.

· Ensure compliance with internal control policies.

· Interact with at all levels and with budget owners/program managers to produce timely, efficient, and accurate month-end close.

· Ensure correct application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

· Monitor daily banking activity and record all transactions in the accounting system.

· Reconcile gift and grant sub-ledgers to the general ledger.

· Track fixed asset additions and disposals, update FA schedule and record depreciation quarterly.

· Prepare annual 1099 and 1096 forms.

· Assist with the annual audit and preparation of assigned audit schedules.

· Cross train on other roles within the accounting team to provide back up.

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or finance, and 5 years of experience.

· Solid understanding of nonprofit accounting.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.

· Ability to organize and prioritize daily work while managing special projects.

· Ability to oversee the monthly close process and adhere to deadlines.

· Self-starter with ability to work independently to proactively identify and overcome barriers or find solutions.

· Solutions-focused individual who looks for opportunities to improve the organization and is proactive in solving problems.

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work successfully with teams across the organization.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (particularly MS Excel) and Blackbaud Financial Edge and/or FENXT

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
