Atlanta Legal Aid Society is Hiring a Remote Managing Attorney

Gwinnett Managing Attorney
Atlanta Legal Aid Society
(“Legal Aid”)seeks a Managing Attorney for its Gwinnett County Office. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income persons in a variety of legal matters including family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law. In addition to direct client services, the office operates several projects, including the Gwinnett Family Violence Project, the Gwinnett Family Law Clinic, and the Gwinnett Pro Bono Project. The office is located in Lawrenceville, close to the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center. The staff consists of a managing attorney, seven full-time attorneys, a part-time attorney, and six support staff members.
Responsibilities: 
  • The Managing Attorney is responsible for the overall management, quality and efficacy of the office. 
  • The Managing Attorney distributes and supervises the work of the staff, holds staff meetings, administers performance reviews, and fosters growth and professional development. 
  • The Managing Attorney works closely with Legal Aid’s management team to coordinate client services, serves as a primary representative of Legal Aid in the Gwinnett County community, and maintains relations with the local bar and bench, government, community organizations, and funding sources. 
  • The Managing Attorney is also expected to handle an active caseload. 
Qualifications: 
  • A Georgia bar license or eligibility for the next Georgia bar exam is required, as is a minimum of five years of experience litigating in various legal forums
  • Applicants must possess experience managing staff including supervising and mentoring attorneys; excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills; excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; the ability to work in a collaborative, hybrid team model; and an appreciation of diversity. 
  • Previous experience working with low-income persons and knowledge of various civil practice areas are preferred.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary is $65,100 depending on experience, plus a $4,000 annual manager stipend. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off including parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 per month deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match; Georgia Bar dues and CLE expenses. Legal Aid offers a hybrid work schedule that allows staff to work 2 days remotely subject to the approval of management and a probationary employment period.
