Hours:

  • 8:30am - 5:00pm.
  • Weekdays only.
  • We are closed nights, weekends, etc.
  • There is no on-call duties.
  • This position does NOT require any travel.

About Our Practice:

  • Seeking a dynamic, dedicated Medical Assistant for Atlanta Center for Gastroenterology. Join this special group of physicians! With more than 40 years' experience, our physicians have created a compassionate and caring culture.
  • The practice has 1 office, 2 MDs, and 11 staff.
  • This GI practice has its own licensed ambulatory surgery center credentialed by AAAHC. The ASC is located in the adjoining suite connected to the office.

JOB SUMMARY / OVERVIEW:

  • Responsible for being the direct clinical liaison between the physician and patient.
  • Assisting physician with management of office visits, providing patient education and instruction, communication with patients via telephone, documenting in patient charts and in EHR system Eclinicalworks.
  • Exercise appropriate clinical judgment relative to any given situation and demonstrate attitudes and behaviors that are professional, empathetic and courteous at all times.
  • The appropriate candidate for this position must demonstrate punctual and dependable attendance.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Patient Triage
  • Scheduling
  • Pre-certifications / Prior Authorizations
  • Assist physician as necessary with office visits.
  • Take patient chief complaint and recent history. Blood Pressure, pulse and weight will be recorded with each visit. A current medication and allergy list is to be updated and maintained in the chart with each office visit.
  • Administration of vaccinations / injections e.g., flu vaccine, B12, etc.
  • Respond to patient phone calls.
  • Manage patient prescriptions as directed by ACG physician.
  • Assist with scheduling office visits, procedures, lab tests, x-rays, outpatient testing, hospital admissions and appointments as needed.
  • Manage referrals as directed.
  • Patient education.
  • Turn over exam rooms.
  • Maintain patient centered data in a neat and organized manner.
  • Management of patient orders.
  • Maintain an organized, efficient and professional work environment.

DUTIES MAY ALSO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Day-to-day front office operations.
  • Maintain, manage and coordinate Prior Approvals and Authorizations depending on the Utilization Management process of the specific Managed Care Company and Medicaid.
  • Team work with co-workers and physicians to obtain optimal patient care.
  • General problem solving
  • Insurance follow-up / verification
  • Documenting interaction with payer
  • Administer IM and SC injection under physician guidance
  • Patient Teaching to include but not limited to HCV therapy, B12 Injections, Bowel preps
  • Answer patient questions per procedure preparation instructions
  • Attend in-service presentations and complete all mandatory education requirements.
  • Obtain patient vital signs, urinalysis, electrocardiogram, etc.
  • Blood draws
  • Schedule office visits, procedures, and diagnostic testing

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED:

  • Relevant experience or transferrable skills
  • Experience in a medical practice environment.
  • Established track record of producing high quality work that is highly accurate, demonstrates attention to detail and reflects well on the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skill with attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide a minimum of 3 references upon request.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task simultaneously, as well as efficiently in a high pace environment.
  • A personal willingness, openness, and drive to learn the day-to-day operations of our particular private medical practice, as well as the daily expectations, duties, tasks, and responsibilities associated with that of the Medical Assistant role.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner using interpersonal skills.
  • Priority setting, application of judgment, communication skill and tact, ability to complete necessary tasks in reasonable time frames.

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED:

  • Experience in a medical practice
  • Endoscopy experience
  • EHR experience with eclinicalworks
  • Experience working in any type of surgery center
  • Gastroenterology experience
  • Desire to work in a medical office environment rather than a hospital
  • GI lab experience as well as back-office experience
  • Experience associated with any of the following: gastroenterology, GI, endoscopy, Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), EGD, colonoscopy, internal medicine, and/or related fields of medicine.
  • Clinical Experience of any sort, or ability and willingness to learn is strongly preferred, as well.
  • 2 years of Medical Assistance experience.
  • Certified Medical Assistant, trained medical assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, or equivalent education.
  • EMR experience
  • Eclinicalworks, ECW exposure
  • Use of any EMR and doing e-prescriptions
  • Working knowledge of referrals, prescription refill requests, and prior approval protocols per medication administration.
  • Requirements of commercial and government insurance plans
  • Medical Insurance e.g., HMO, POS and PPO plans
  • HIPAA regulations, as well as pertinent legal and regulatory compliance service standards
  • Basic computer skills, including proficient use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Conceptual understanding of deductibles and co-pays
