Atlanta Botanical Garden is Hiring a NSF RaMP Conservation Mentorship Program Assistant Near Atlanta, GA

Description

The Conservation Mentorship Program Assistant is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and facilitating undergraduate and post-baccalaureate mentorship programs for the Conservation & Research Department at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. The Conservation Mentorship Program Assistant must be creative and enjoy working on an active team that is mission-driven, results-driven, and scientifically focused. Strong organizational skills, project management experience, and experience organizing intern or mentee programs are highly desired. This position has funding until September 2026 through the NSF-funded RaMP: Understanding Plant Species Rarity: Causes and Consequences from Genes to Ecosystems grant, and it will directly support that project. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Conservation & Research staff with the development, implementation, and coordination of the Rare Plant RaMP Network.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with partner gardens, the California Botanic Garden, the San Diego Botanic Garden, and The Morton Arboretum. 
  • Organize travel, lodging, and other expenses related to participation in mentorship programs. 
  • Coordinate mentor training activities across the Network, schedule training sessions, and organize training materials for all participants. 
  • Maintain the RaMP recruiting website using guidance from ABG and partner botanical gardens. 
  • Manage recruiting, including outreach to university partners, posting job advertisements, and collating applications.
  • Schedule virtual and in-person meetings, workshops, and trainings for mentees and mentors. 
  • Assist the external evaluator with program evaluations and assessments. 
  • Evaluate and revise codes of conduct for mentee programs. 
  • Coordinate geographically dispersed teams. 
  • Prepare, process, and distribute project deliverables, reports, meeting minutes, submittals, action items, etc. 

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3 years of education and project management experience; 7 years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree may be considered. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking, with a sincere desire to train the next generation of conservation professionals 
  • Highly proficient computer skills (including MS Office, Google Suites, Adobe Suites, virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, project tracking software such as Monday.com)
  • Experience with making travel arrangements and coordinating on/offsite meetings 
  • Demonstrated team player attitude, with a record of proactively taking initiative. 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to spend long periods of time sitting at a computer/desk. Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lb.
