Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities is Hiring an Instructor Assistant Near Athens, OH

Overview:
Beacon School is a special educational service provider for five local school districts in Athens County. School age programming is tailored to meet the needs of students age 5-21 with focus in the areas of functional academics, prevocational instruction, socialization, daily living skills, adaptive physical education, fine/gross motor skills, and recreation/leisure. We seek an Instructor Assistant dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with exceptional needs and with a passion for serving a population diverse in social, educational and economic backgrounds and levels.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the lead instructor in delivering educational and social content and activities
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining records and reports, both written and electronic, such as attendance, behavioral data, and academic progress data.
  • Attends meetings and conferences with parents and staff as needed
  • Manage classroom dynamics and ensure a conducive learning environment
  • Provide tutoring and mentoring to students as needed
  • Assists students with mobility, physical and clothing needs such as positioning, feeding, toileting and getting on and off transportation vehicles
  • Assists in preparing materials for daily lesson plans consistent with instructor’s goals for students’ Individual Educational Plans.
  • Collaborate with the instructional team to optimize student learning outcomes

Experience:
The successful candidate should possess:

  • OH Dept. of Education's Educational Aide Permit, with Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) endorsement, or ability to obtain permit by start date (https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Teaching/Licensure/Apply-for-Certificate-License/Educational-Aides-and-Monitors#AIDE)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to prepare/maintain accurate reports.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use the computer, email, and instructional technology tools.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds; physical ability to effectively sustain and endure physical demands to meet the needs of active children
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities, behavior management and teaching methods preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $24,000.00 - $40,391.00 per year
