POSITION SUMMARY:

We are currently recruiting a Transportation Operator. The Transportation Operator is responsible for mowing, weed eating, trash pickup, and related duties as assigned. This FULL-TIME position starts at $15 per hour and is located in Covington, VA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

· Traffic control: Flaggers are responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic at construction sites, roadwork zones, or special events to ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians.

· Signaling and communication: Flaggers use flags, hand signals, or other designated communication methods to convey instructions to drivers and pedestrians, such as when to stop, proceed, or merge.

· Monitor work zones: Flaggers continuously monitor the flow of traffic in work zones, adjusting their signals or positions as necessary to maintain safe conditions and minimize congestion.

· Coordination with construction crews: Flaggers collaborate closely with construction crews, equipment operators, and supervisors to ensure seamless traffic flow and to coordinate activities in the work zone.

· Safety compliance: Flaggers enforce safety regulations and procedures, such as wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to established traffic control plans, to maintain a safe working environment for themselves and others.

· Labor assistance: Assist with various manual labor tasks as needed, such as setting up and removing traffic control devices, barricades, and signage.

  • Weed eating: Perform weed eating or vegetation control along roadways or in work zones to maintain clear visibility and safe passage for motorists and pedestrians.
  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives, and systems
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings and seminars as assigned.
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures, to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works as a team within division and company.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills within the English language.
  • Proven, high quality customer service (internal and external customers).
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Solid ability to analyze situations carefully and adopt appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to the duties, methods, and procedures required by the position.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to large and small group audiences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Must have a valid VA DL

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Standard hours of work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time.
