Description

Bus Driver Responsibilities:

• Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip.
• Pick up ASun Star participants from the place and at the time they’ve requested pick up from.
• Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up-to-date on road conditions.
• Ensure that you follow all traffic and speed rules and regulations as per the law.
• Adjust the route to avoid heavy traffic or road constructions, as needed.
• Coordinate with bus aide to safely operate and deliver participants/passengers on time at the agency or in their home.
• Ensure the car seats are clean and comfortable for all riders.
• Complete vehicle checkpoint paperwork on a daily basis and submit to the front desk or lock box upon completion.
• Perform maintenance runs as per the company's regular maintenance run schedule.
• Schedule regular vehicle service appointments and report any issues.
• Book car wash and detailing services to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the car as requested.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Bus Aide Responsibilities:

• Make phone calls to each family when in route for pick up and drop off.
• Give the family an approximation of how long until arrival/ drop off.
• If pick ups/ drop offs are behind schedule, contact the remaining families to let them know of the delay and the approximate time of arrival.
• Give parents an update of activities and behavior/interaction during drop off phone call each day.
• Walk youth onto and off the bus at all times. Help them cross the street and do not clear the bus driver to pull off until the youth has made it in the house. If the youth lives in a building, make sure that the parent knows that they youth is coming into the building.
• Assign seats and pair youth based on age, sex, and behavior.
• Make sure each youth puts on and keeps on their seat belts.
• Do not allow anyone to eat or drink on the bus.
• Sit on the seat that is directly behind the driver or on opposite side of driver depending on bus that you are on. 
• You feet should face outward on the bus so that you can see the rows and kids at all times.
• Pay attention to the conversation and behaviors on the bus. Youth should not use profanity or have physical contact with others.
• Once all passengers are on the bus for pick up / drop off, complete a run through on the list to make sure no one is missing.
• Complete the transportation log for each pick up and drop off.

Requirements

Bus Drivers:

• Proven experience as a Driver
• A valid driver’s license
• A clean driving record
• Minimum visual acuity of 20/50 (or corrected to 20/50)
• Familiarity with GPS devices
• Knowledge of area roads and neighborhoods
• Availability to occasionally take weekend and night shifts
• A polite and professional disposition
• Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)
• A high school diploma

Bus Aides: You must log all information on the Transportation Logs Daily, Check youth in and out of Bright Wheel Daily, and make sure you have all updated contact numbers and addresses before route.

Bus Aides: When you arrive to facility you must call upstairs to have at least 1 other staff assist you before taking the youth off of the bus for safety precautions.
