Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician to support t he Data Links and Gateways Branch Waveform Link 16 program office, which is within the Aerial Networks Divosion (AFLCMC/HNA) and located at Hanscom AFB, MA.
The Link 16 modernization effort encompasses several ongoing initiatives to develop, field, modernize and maintain Link 16 Tactical Data Link (TDL) communication proficiencies as framed by the Joint Aerial Layer Networking (JALN) Initial Capabilities Document (ICD) capability gaps and Pathfinder study.
LOCATION: Hanscom AFB, MA
JOB STATUS: Full time; salaried
TRAVEL: CONUS travel up to 10% may be required
SECURITY CLEARANCE: DoD Secret clearance is required
JOB RESPONSBILITIES:
  • Perform work with responsibility in planning and conducting projects of limited scope
  • Provide leadership, scheduling and planning functions as well as assistance to multiple projects
  • Provide management and assistance including research, data analysis, development, design, evaluation, inspection, problem solving production, application, standardization, testing, and/or operation of engineering facilities, structures, systems, processes, equipment, devices or materials
  • Responsible for requirements development and documentation for Tactical Data Link communication systems
  • Responsible for the evaluation of vendor proposals and technical review documentation against criteria from System Requirements Documents
  • Provide/participate in system integration and testing activities for tactical data links, ensuring seamless interoperability with existing communication systems
  • Provide troubleshooting and resolution of hardware issues to minimizing downtime and maintain operational readiness
  • Responsible for the generation and maintenance of system documentation, including system configurations, test procedures, and troubleshooting guides
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA/BS degree and 15 years of experience (5 years DoD), or 20 years of directly related experience (8 years DoD)
  • Experience in the development and design of RF Line of Site communications components (e.g., radios, transceivers, amplifiers, antennas)
  • Experience with Tactical Data Link waveforms and protocols such as Link-16, Tactical Digital Information Link (TADIL) J Message Standard (MIL-STD-6016B), Open Mission Systems (OMS) and Universal Command and Control (C2) Interface (UCI), SATURN, and Digital Time Division Command/Response Multiplex Data Bus (MIL-STD-1553C)
  • Experience with configuration control and maintenance of tactical data link equipment, including radios, antennas, and associated hardware, ensuring adherence to established standards
  • Experience with collaboration with cross-functional teams and technical support to end-users
  • Knowledge of compliance with standards and certifications, such as:
    • MIL-STD-464D: Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Requirements for Systems
    • MIL-STD-882E: DoD Standard Practice for System Safety
    • MIL-HDBK-338B: Electronic Reliability Design Handbook
    • MIL-STD-461G: Requirements for the Control of Electromagnetic Interference Characteristics of Subsystems and Equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with Mil Std 6016F/G (Tactical Data Link (TDL) 16 Message Standard)
  • Proficient Microsoft office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project
  • Familiarity with principles, policies and practices of systems acquisition and program management, as defined in DoDI 5000.02 and AFI 63-101/20-101
