Overview:

Astera Credit Union is currently seeking qualified applicants for a position as a Loan Underwriter at our Administrative Office in Lansing, MI. The purpose of this job is to adequately and effectively serve Astera Credit Union’s membership by meeting their lending needs and providing service consistent with our Service Promises. A key element of this service delivery involves building relationships with people and finding ways to save them time and money while improving their financial well-being. This job performs a variety of lending functions, including accurate processing of loan applications, reviewing and underwriting consumer loan applications with any eye toward finding ways to approve loan requests as opposed to deny them while ensuring an appropriate level or risk is maintained in the overall loan portfolio, and suggesting appropriate additional products and services during the loan application process. Additional responsibilities include working various reports and assisting with organizational projects. All of these tasks are necessary to achieve the credit union’s mission and strategic goals.

The Qualified Applicant Will Have:

· A high school diploma or GED. Completion of or progress toward a college degree is preferred.

· Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Previous experience in a credit union or other financial institution is preferred.

· Advanced knowledge of best practices of lending, including loan underwriting.

· Basic understanding of the foundations of providing excellent service in a member experience culture.

· Basic understanding of credit union industry laws and regulations, including basic knowledge of BSA, OFAC, US Patriot Act, and CTR/SARs.

· Basic knowledge of financial services industry concepts, jargon, and best practices.

· Must be available to work 40 hours per week, including most Saturdays. Shifts range between the hours of 8:30am and 5:30pm Monday through Friday, 8:30am and 1:30pm on Saturdays.

Once fully trained, this position is able to work remotely 80% of the time. Additional on-site training and meetings may be required. 

This is a full-time, hourly, union position. The pay for this position is $18.13 per hour.
