The Tax Specialist is directly responsible for all Direct and Indirect state and local taxes for six AstenJohnson entities (except Sales & Use and GST/PST and VAT) in a fast-paced dynamic work environment, as well as operating as a member of the team that manages all global tax and transfer pricing compliance. Specific Responsibilities:
State Income taxes
Prepare and e-file income tax filings, estimates, extensions (approx. 45 returns)
Evaluate and respond to all state correspondence
Primary “owner” of state audits
Gather apportionment
Maintain Tax Depreciation registers which include bonus and non-bonus assets
Assist in annual tax provision calculations as needed
Apply for annual state income tax credits
Federal R&D Credit calculation
Property tax - US and CA
Real estate - filings/payments
Inventory and personal property - filings/payments
Budgets and reconciliation of accounts / year end accrual true ups
Manage property tax appeals and reporting with DMA
Correspondence
Notices
Work with consultant on appeals
1099, 1042-S filings – all US entities
FinCEN reporting for foreign bank accounts (22 entities with bank accounts)
Report for all AJ signor individuals (normally 6 filings, but 8 individuals)
Report for AJ Holdings
Corporate Registrations - manage CSC covering all US and CA requirements (really need to get withdrawals done)
Supply all data needed for annual reports by state & entity
Prepare and file new registrations as needed
Handle all State registration correspondence and payments
Statistics and Census filings – US and CA
Preparation and management of tax depreciation registers for the globe/entire AJ group (MACRS & ADS) Ten entities globally
Maintain all intercompany loan documents
Preparation and filing of Canadian Treaty based returns for US companies.
Position Requirements:
Ability to manage time and multiple tasks is critical.
Strong tax research skills with ability to apply regulations
Computer knowledge essential, specifically excel skills (JD Edwards and Onesource income tax, CCH connect tax research, and tax deprecation software experience helpful).
Accounting knowledge required.
Ability to work in a team environment and help on projects as needed.
At least two tax complete cycles of experience required.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties
Assist on projects and other tax related items as appropriate.
Reporting Relationships:
Report directly to the Tax Manager; work with Corporate Treasurer, as well as personnel at the sites, foreign entities and within Corporate Finance/Reporting Teams
