Full Time Licensed Mental Health Professional - Social Worker

JOB DESCRIPTION: A school social worker will provide supports for the non-academic, social emotional needs of all students at Gilbert Sena Charter High School. A School Social Worker is responsible to the Executive Director and works under the direct supervision of the designated manager(s). The School Social Worker provides behavioral, emotional and educational counseling to groups and individuals, assists students in adjusting to school and community life and serves as liaison to other agencies. The School Social Worker also assists with the intake of incoming students and with their return to district educational programs. The primary focus of this role is attendance retention and truancy prevention and special education services.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: 1. Planning and Development: a. Assisting in the formulation of administrative procedures and policies which directly affect the welfare of students. b. Assisting in the development of school social worker objectives. c. Assisting in the development of plans that will improve the quality of services that agencies provide to students based on assessed needs. 2. Service to Students: a. Providing individual or group counseling for children who are experiencing problems in school, home, or community adjustment with an emphasis upon early intervention. b. Encouraging and assisting families in their pursuit of community services that may assist in the remediation of school centered problems. c. Assisting in truancy related interventions and/or programs. d. Assisting with conflict resolution, anger management, and coping skills. e. Helping students develop appropriate social interaction skills. f. Providing crisis intervention. g. Developing intervention strategies to increase academic success. h. Assisting in the implementation of the RTI2 Behavior program and developing positive behavioral intervention strategies 3. Services to Parents: a. Assisting parents in preventing problems by being the liaison for the student with the school. b. Assisting parents to understand problems experienced by their children. This is accomplished through home visits, group counseling, parent training or referrals to community services. c. Assisting parents in accessing programs available to students with special needs. d. Assisting parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources. 4. Services to Teachers: a. Providing collaboration and consultation regarding student problems and coordinating plans and actions to meet them. b. Assisting teachers in better understanding of students with disabilities, behavior intervention strategies, and development and implementation of 504 plans/Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as needed. c. Developing staff in-service programs in areas related to student welfare

Minimum Qualifications: • Successful candidate must provide proof of employment eligibility and verification of legal right to work in the United States in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act. Education: • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or other related field is preferred. • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related field is required. Experience: • Minimum of three years experience working with programs which required extensive coordination between agencies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of techniques, methods and resources in planning and implementing a comprehensive educational and career counseling program. • Knowledge of community resources for referrals. • Knowledge of casework, school social work, school counseling and therapy. • Knowledge of available referral agencies and resources within the county. • Knowledge of child development and learning theory. • Knowledge of assessment instruments and procedures, and instructional materials and techniques. • Ability to successfully counsel students and parents. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and agencies. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to plan, organize and schedule a master calendar to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives. • Ability to implement psycho-social assessment and intervention techniques. • Ability to perform crisis assessment and intervention.• Ability to conduct group process counseling techniques. • Ability to plan, organize and administer programs. • Ability to meet schedules and time lines. • Ability to plan, coordinate and document projects. • Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations. • Ability to operate a computer and related software. • Ability to prepare statistical reports and records.
