Position: Electrical Engineering Manager – MEP Electrical Engineer

Location: Fairfield, New Jersey

We are seeking an experienced MEP Electrical Engineering Manager who is up to the challenge of taking their career to the next level!

Job Description

Summary:

As an Engineering Manager, under limited direction, you will manage electrical engineering department staff. You will be responsible for the timely coordination and execution of high-quality, professional, MEP engineering work in support of a wide range of complex projects and other engineering assignments. You will be assigned various projects and hold responsibility for leading the completion of assignments. You will be responsible for establishing office and design standards relating to the production of detailed client deliverables such as engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and other related technical documents. You will be responsible for assembling and performing presentations on technical aspects of projects to clients. You will be taking part in building client relationships and strengthening company sales through delivery of high-quality engineering services.

As an Engineering Manager, you will support the growth of the electrical engineering department via sales support and operations management. This includes opportunities assisting the company with business development and sales, as well as interviewing, hiring and managing engineering personnel.

Prerequisites:

· Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey. New York and Pennsylvania licensures, a large plus. LEED accreditation, a plus.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

· 3 years Engineering Management experience.

· 10 years of experience working as a consulting engineer in the MEP arena.

· Experience designing projects for a variety of markets and facilities such as commercial office, commercial manufacturing, residential, banking, educational, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, municipal, and institutional facilities. Experience with water/wastewater facilities, heavy industrial facilities, and mission critical facilities, a large plus.

· Strong knowledge of relevant building codes and industry-standard practices, codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IBC, NJ/NY/NYC, etc. codes and standards).

· Very strong computer skills.

· Very strong AutoCAD skills. REVIT experience, a plus.

· Strong knowledge of Electrical Analysis Software (eg. SKM Power Tools).

· Very strong verbal and written communication skills.

· Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Field troubleshooting skills, a large plus.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

As an Engineering Manager, you will perform a variety of functions within the engineering group. Although your primary responsibility will be execution of electrical engineering deliverables, your overall duty will require well-rounded MEP engineering and industry knowledge. Your position will require a dynamic skill set and responsibilities, which will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

Engineering - Project Management Responsibilities:

· Duties will be universal at times including working independently, mentoring and leading a group, and regular liaison with clients and subconsultants.

· Assist with the preparation of proposals including assisting in the development of scope-of-work packages. This may include engagement of subcontractors and professional subconsultants as deemed necessary to properly scope and assemble a successful engineering proposal.

· Support marketing and sales activities to assist in the development of new service offerings.

· Execute contracted duties to meet client objectives. Ensure the scope of work, terms and conditions, and project objectives are clearly understood and communicate same to the engineering team.

· Develop resource budgets, manage changes, determine progress and generate forecasts.

· Ensure project budgets are maintained and adjusted as necessary with appropriate client and management communication and authorization.

· Complete preparation of bid documents, and support throughout all the various phases of a project through construction.

· Manage construction administrative action such as submittal review, field reports, responding to RFIs, partial payments, work directives, etc.

· Manage project groups including company personnel, and for larger engineering assignments, manage subconsultants and client representatives.

· Develop and perform presentations for all technical aspects of projects to clients.

Engineering - Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Effectively manage, lead, supervise and contribute to all electrical engineering group activity for small to mid-sized projects.

· Provide direction and supervision to all subordinates. Formally evaluate their performance after each project and provide feedback.

· Resolve performance issues in a timely manner.

· Maintain interdisciplinary coordination with other involved trades. Working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection to ensure proper design coordination.

· Determine design procedures and interpret the application of design criteria. Review plans and specifications for accuracy of design and completeness.

· In-depth legal understanding of construction documents and the engineering process.

· Be proactive in identifying problems. Develop alternative solutions and recommendations for solving problems.

· Developing and implementing improvements to systems and operations which will work to improve the operational effectiveness of the electrical engineering group.

· Monitor all correspondence between staff, clients, contractors, owners, etc.

· Develop and maintain professional relationships with clients.

Engineering - Technical Responsibilities:

· Provide technical leadership in electrical engineering design, installation support and verification support for client projects. Act as a technical resource person for other staff and mentor less experienced engineers.

· Provide comprehensive design services by supporting the establishment of design criteria and the preparation of specifications, design computations, drawings, models, and bills of material in accordance with project requirements.

· Interpret and apply relevant codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations for assuring accurate engineering and design services. Identify and assure adherence to relevant codes and standards in support of the production of high-quality electrical engineering design documents and reports.

· Assisting in the development and refining of engineering standards.

· Work in conjunction with field technicians and trade contractors to test, troubleshoot and analyze existing systems.

· Perform/oversee/approve engineering calculations and analyses associated with the electrical and fire alarm requirements.

· Perform/oversee field surveys to document and evaluate existing systems.

· Perform/oversee design and drafting using AutoCAD.

· Write/approve technical specifications.

· Perform technical evaluations

· Write technical reports.

Qualifications:

· Very Strong background in electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, grounding requirements, low voltage (telecom, data, sound systems, AV systems), emergency generators, fire alarm systems, and lightning protection systems.

· Able to manage an electrical engineering group and collaborate to achieve a sound business outcome.

· History working with projects such as commercial facilities, educational facilities, pharmaceutical facilities, and healthcare facilities. Water facilities, wastewater facilities, heavy industrial facilities, and mission critical facilities, a large plus.

· Must be entrepreneurial and able to generate sales.

· Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance or supervision in a small company setting.

· Able to coordinate and direct personnel and subconsultants, and function as a group leader.

· Diligent, reliable, thorough, tenacious, and detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational skills, including effective prioritization and follow-up.

· Strong knowledge of energy codes.

· Strong knowledge of fire protection systems, a large plus.

· Very strong knowledge of Electrical Analysis software. Knowledge of SKM Power Tools software, a large plus.

· Very clear sense of spatial requirements, availability and constraints accompanied by a strong ability to properly layout equipment in an efficient manner.
