Associated Students, CSU Chico is Hiring a Catering Assistant, Part-time Near Chico, CA

The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for Catering Assistant, Part-time . This is a part-time, non-benefited position that will work no more than 29 hours per week, 960 hours per fiscal year. The pay range is $18.52 to $22.00/hour; placement in range is dependent upon experience. The anticipated schedule for this position is dependent on events, will likely vary from week to week, and can include shifts during days or evenings all days of the week . The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.

The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

CATERING ASSISTANT, Part-Time

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Catering Assistant is a customer service focused assistant responsible for the processing and administrative duties related to catering events typically occurring in the BMU and on the CSUC Campus. This position is event driven and working hours will vary based on departmental needs. This may include evenings and weekends.

TYPICAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as initial point of contact for all catering customers providing excellent customer service and ensuring catering needs are met. Coordinates assigned catering events based on orders including special events such as weddings, conferences and banquets.
  • Processes catering orders ensuring accurate and timely data entry in EMS reservations system. Ensures proper and timely notification to affected staff of all catering order changes.
  • Responsible for fully executing catering orders up to $400. This includes communicating directly with the client and catering staff, ensuring timely delivery and service, and overseeing all event details and staff.
  • Assists Catering Manager with student employee recruitment process. This includes onboarding the new employee, preparing required paperwork, and reviewing semi-monthly payroll/timesheets meeting all established deadlines.
  • Oversees catering events on site as assigned to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of services. Serves as point-of-contact for client. Directs student catering employees as needed. May be required to assist in set-up and delivery of catering. May serve as the catering primary point of contact in the absence of the Catering Manager.
  • Performs a variety of general office duties such as record keeping; answering telephones; scheduling meetings; and developing, maintaining and completing forms.
  • Prepares various sales and productivity reports using EMS, Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Represents Catering and maintains positive working relationships with campus, AS staff, students and the community.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

    TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is performed throughout the BMU and Campus, as well as in an office environment. Includes contact with student groups, the campus and Associated Student community, and the general public.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Stand and walk for extended periods, lift and move objects weighing up to 30lbs. Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer terminals, telephones and copiers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Operate a computer for word processing, data entry and other purposes.
    • Talk to and interview others to obtain or exchange information.
    • Prepare, review, and analyze data.
    • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

      Experience :

      • One (1) year of full-time experience in catering and/or food service or one (1) year of part-time experience in AS Catering.
      • Office administrative support work experience preferred.
      • Supervisory or team management experience preferred.

        Education :

        No special educational requirements.

        Special Requirements

        • Must possess a valid California Food Handlers Card or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
        • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Associated Students will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals any disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current Associated Students employees who apply for the position.
