Assabet Valley Collaborative is Hiring a School Nurse Near Southborough, MA

AVC is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse for our REACH 2 (middle school) classroom. This is a full time (35 hours per week) school year (185 days) position with additional opportunities to work our extended school year (summer) programs.NOTE: Before you read on, please read our Commitments to Educational Equity. Who We AreAssabet Valley Collaborative (AVC) is an educational service agency in Metrowest/Central Massachusetts. Our services include school programs, wraparound services, transportation services, professional development, cooperative purchasing, and consulting. We serve students with disabilities who have a range of nursing/health needs.Job ResponsibilitiesThe Nurse serves as an essential member of the AVC team to support the health and wellness of our students. The Nurse is responsible for building meaningful relationships with AVC employees, students, and families.
The Nurse will provide a range of nursing services and additional responsibilities that are consistent with the profile of students in each program. The Nurse at AVC is responsible for monitoring the safety and well-being of students while at school, and to administer medication, treatments, assessments, and interventions throughout the school day. In addition, school health records (including health care plans), nursing notes, medication administration records and documentation, storage and security of medications, and communication (both written and oral) are the nurse's responsibilities. While nursing responsibilities are the foremost priority for the Nurse, additional programmatic responsibilities are shared to deliver high-quality education services, of which nursing is a related service.

  • Coordinates and implements medical procedures as appropriate in daily and emergencies.
    • Administers medications and treatments.
    • Contributes to the overall work of the program, classroom implementation of lessons, lifting, etc. as applicable.
    • Acts as a medical resource, training staff in implementing universal precautions, infection control, and program emergency planning and management.
Communication And Collaboration
  • Maintains Electronic Medical Documentation.
    • Communicates and collaborates with educational and related service providers (as needed) regarding interventions.
    • Shares pertinent students’ medical information with the classroom team.
    • Communicates and consults with AVC nursing colleagues.
    • Communicates with families, physicians, and therapists as needed.
    • Implements treatments/procedures as laid out in student's health care plans
    • Collaborates within and adapts to the classroom schedule.
Professional Growth And Ethics
  • Adheres to established federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
    • Refines and develops professional skills through training, evidence-based practice, and continuing education.
    • Maintains confidentiality of student information through the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA.
    • Follows all AVC policies and procedures.
    • Adaptability- flexibility- willingness to grow.
    • Attends monthly department meetings and scheduled staff development.
Physical Demands
  • Physical ability to execute job responsibilities may include:
    • Assist in lifting students which may include the use of Hoyer Lift.
    • Assist in personal care of students.
    • Implement treatment plans as developed by PT and/or OT as applicable.
    • Assist in positioning and mobility goals.
    • Meet the physical requirements necessary to physically intervene in a crisis or emergency.

This person demonstrates a learning mindset and the ability to receive feedback, self-reflect, and pivot. The Nurse will also have the ability to effectively facilitate the learning of others by advancing their thinking, building their skills, and sparking their self-reflection and curiosity.
Ideal Candidates Have
  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing program and Massachusetts licensure as a nurse (RN) - meeting the requirements set forth by the Massachusetts Board of Health specific to the practice of nursing as per MGL Chapter 112: Section 74.
  • Exposure to pediatrics, psychology, school, special education, or geriatric settings.
  • Bilingual or multilingual is a plus.
