Woodworking Specialist

Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp offers a traditional camp experience in the heart of Manhattan at two locations - the Upper East Side and Battery Park City. We focus on building confidence, character, and community.

In addition to our active program Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp offers a wonderful Arts program. We have teamed up with the Maple Woodshop to offer a hand-tool based woodworking program The Woodworking Specialist will lead age-appropriate lessons for campers’ 3rd grade and up.

Responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with the Head of Arts in designing curriculum base on the “Maple Woodshop” lessons
• Lead woodworking activities for each camper group
• Complete Maple Wood Shop Training program
• Communicate with group counselors, needs of the lesson and delegate responsibilities.
• Work with Head of Arts (HoA) and Program Manager to order supplies needed for activities.
• Prep materials for projects in advance of activities
• Work with HoA on campus-wide projects
• Participate in campus-wide special events and theme days

Qualifications
- Experience in woodworking, including proficiency with hand tools, construction, carpentry, and power tools
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with campers and staff
- Previous experience in classroom management or working with children is preferred
- Certification in woodworking or related field is a bonus

Candidates should be energetic and excited to lead our campers in engaging activities. Strong communication and classroom management skills are a must.

NOTE: Camp runs from Thursday, June 27 to Friday, August 16. Camp staff are required to be on the premises by 8:00 am and the day is over by 4:45 pm. A full summer commitment is required. All summer camp employees are required to attend orientation the evenings of June 17th, 18th and 20th and Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd.

This position will require lesson planning, Maple Wood Shop Training, and activity preparation prior the start of camp.

Pay: $2,600.00 - $4,000.00 per month
