Aspen Aerogels is looking for a R&D Engineering Intern to participate in engineering activities in support of aerogel processes and product development. In particular, the intern will assist with novel system design, Standard Operating Procedure development and review, aerogel test-sample production, and equipment inspection and maintenance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist R&D Engineers, technicians, and other lab personnel on research programs for aerogel product and process development.
• Assist in the synthesis of aerogel samples for process development experiments
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of process development systems
• Assist in the design and fabrication of novel test and proof-of-concept systems
• Prepare drafts and perform reviews of Standard Operating Procedures
• Assures all job activities adhere to company Environmental, Health and Safety requirements.
•  Adopt and follow Aspen’s core values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, Teamwork, Customer and Innovation on both a personal and professional level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Degree and currently pursuing higher-level technical degree
• Hands on experience with basic laboratory equipment and hand-tools
• Basic knowledge of documenting data in a laboratory notebook
• Basic knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing programs
• Good troubleshooting skills
• Strong qualitative/quantitative analytical skills
• Good attention to detail.
• Good knowledge of Excel, Access, Word and other software programs.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend written standard operating procedures and instructions.
•  Must be able to work safely in a chemical lab environment following all safety protocols and safe work procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Manual dexterity is required to safely handle chemicals and perform test methods.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using available material handling equipment.
• Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
• Occasionally works around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
