DISPENSING PHARMACY TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Answer telephones; respond to questions and/or patient, doctor and clinic requests.
  • Locate, dispense, pack and label a prescribed medication for a patient that is then reviewed by a pharmacist for accuracy.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items, or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
  • Pre-pack bulk medicines, fill bottles with prescribed medications, and type and affix labels.
  • Establish or maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
  • Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  • Order, label, and count medication stock.
  • Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
  • Operate cash registers to accept payment from customers.
  • Clean and help maintain equipment or work areas and sterilize glassware, according to prescribed methods.
  • Mix pharmaceutical preparations, according to written prescriptions.
  • Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
  • Price stock and mark items for sale.
  • Deliver medications or pharmaceutical supplies to patients, nursing stations, or surgery
  • Transfer medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes, using aseptic techniques
  • Maintain and merchandise home healthcare products or services
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge
