Asian American Community Services is Hiring a Bilingual /Bicultural Family Support Program Specialist (Full Time) Near Columbus, OH

About Us: Asian American Community Services is a non-profit community-based organization serving the needs of all Asian Americans in central Ohio. Since 1976, AACS has provided leadership in developing the Asian community through its expansive and proactive programs and services.

Position Title: Family Support Program Specialist

Office Location: 4700 Reed Road, Suite B, Upper Arlington, OH 43220 (with travel in the central Ohio area as needed)

Department: Family Support Program

Employment Status: Full-Time, Hourly

Salary: Commensurate with experience, range $17-20.00.

Benefits: For full-time position, medical, vision, and dental insurance available upon satisfactory completion of probationary period (3 months).

Schedule: Flexible in order to accommodate client needs; Office hours Monday-Friday 9am-5pm

Job Duties:

1. Serve as part of AACS’s Family Support Program team as a Program Specialist to:

  • Provide direct client services including crisis intervention, intake, case management, legal and medical advocacy, referrals, safety planning, court and hospital accompaniment, public assistance and compensation claims support, and victims’ rights education. Clients include victims/survivors of domestic violence, human-trafficking, hate crimes, elder abuse, and sexual assault.
  • Ensure timely communication regarding care coordination between AACS staff and partner agencies.
  • Initiate new programming in fields appropriate for the community/communities served.
  • Facilitate support groups and vocational workshops for FSP clients.
  • Recruit volunteers and interns for FSP.
  • Develop and implement action plans developed in accordance with assessments of program and community needs.
  • Complete grant reports and maintain accurate and timely service records in accordance with contract requirements and agency procedures under the supervision of the Program Manager.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Director and Program Manager.

2. Provide community education to build community awareness.

  • Develop network and establish relationships with other community organizations and community members. Ensure timely communication regarding care coordination between staff and partner agencies.
  • Facilitate presentation/workshop/training on the issues that Asian immigrants and refugees/asylums face to professionals, community residents and individuals who might have contact with the immigrants and refugees/asylums.
  • Provide outreach to the community.

3. Actively participate in relevant AACS and Family Support Department meetings, supervision, and trainings as needed.

4. Maintain community relationships by attending community meetings such as CORRC, the Salvation Army case management meetings, Inclusion and Diversity Council, etc.

Education: High School Diploma or greater.

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for working with and empowering clients. Ability to advocate on behalf of others while maintaining professionalism and strong community relationships.
  • Knowledge of Asian Pacific Islander cultures. Bilingual in an Asian language is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills in English (oral/written).
  • Exceptional listening skills and empathy.
  • Willingness to learn and a dedication to quality improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability; ability to prioritize work.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a culturally and linguistically diverse environment.
  • Awareness of and adherence to advocacy/case management ethics.
  • Bilingual in an Asian language (target languages: Mandarin, Khmer, Thai, Vietnamese).
  • Social service experience, especially with families who have a refugee/immigrant background.
  • Comfort with Google Drive and affiliated products.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
