AACF manages funding from various federal, state and private sources to carry out our mission to enhance, empower, and enrich our local immigrant communities. The Grants Accountant will allow us to make our work even more impactful by ensuring compliance with administrative and fiscal requirements in grant contracts and helping us expand our future funding.
What You'll Do:
Grant Accounting:
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls and procedures for accounting for grants.
  • Reconcile grant-related accounts in the general ledger, making necessary journal entry adjustments to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Contribute to the annual audit process by assisting in the preparation of audit schedules, documentation, and support related to grants.Grant Management:
    • Communicate with Project Managers about progress and reporting deadlines
    • Analyze grant agreements to understand financial reporting requirements, budget restrictions, and compliance obligations outlined in the agreements.
    • Closely monitor grant budgets, expenditures, and projections to ensure that funds are utilized per grant agreements and applicable regulations.
    • Prepare accurate financial reports and invoices for submission to grantors following specified deadlines.
    • Work closely with program managers to develop grant budgets, provide budget-to-actual and ad hoc reporting, and resolve any variances.
    • Provide fiscal oversight and guidance to grant sub-recipients to adhere to grantor guidelines and specified timelines.
    • Manage the grants close-out procedures and evaluate for compliance.
    • Contribute to the preparation and timely submission of new grant applications.
    • Oversee the grants portfolio and help complete pending applications by working with the grant writer(s).
    • Provide advanced, technical grants accounting support work for Program Managers and Executive Management.
    General Accounting Support:
    • Assist with the month-end close process.
    • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Bank Reconciliations.
    • Assist with reporting and external audit.
    • Create journal entries.
    • Prepare monthly financial reports.
    • Perform general ledger account reconciliations.Your Background:
      • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
      • 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in a non-profit setting.
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite Applications.
      • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong familiarity with pivot tables and formulae.
      • Editing and proofreading experience a plus
      • Proficiency in accounting software
      • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
      • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in financial reporting.
      • A self-starter with organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, manage, and complete multiple tasks under time-sensitive deadlines independently.
      • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
      Job Type:
      • Full-time; Hybrid possible after training period
      • Frederick, MD 21702: Reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (Required)Pay:
        $54,000 - $58,000 annual salary based on education and experience.
