Asian American Center of Frederick is a non-profit organization based in Frederick MD. Our mission is to enhance, empower, and enrich the lives of all residents, in particular families from low-income, immigrant, and LEP (Limited English Proficiency) backgrounds. We provide them with the essential skills and knowledge that lead them to be independent and successful contributors to our communities and as a whole, to society at large.
In 2023, we were granted the opportunity to open our first Family Support Center on the West side of Frederick and are sponsored by The Maryland Family Network.
The Family Support Center is a community hub for learning. We believe children and families thrive from a holistic approach. Our goal is to enhance the lives of young children and their families through meaningful educational experiences. We want all families to feel empowered to learn, grow, and achieve. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive services to families and their children. It is our vision to support families in reaching their full potential.
We are currently looking for the next member of our incredible team.
Position: Child Development Specialist
Qualifications and Experience
  • Masters degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. Bachelors in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field accepted.
  • Must have experience working with young children from birth to three years old.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
General Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
  • Understand and be committed to the overall philosophy of Family Support.
  • Maintain respect for confidentiality of information divulged by or on behalf of participants.
  • Possess the ability to relate to people of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Be willing and able to do aggressive outreach & recruitment.
  • Model appropriate interactions with young children and parents.
  • Have the ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Be willing to submit to a criminal investigation and background check.
Specific Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
  • Have thorough knowledge of child growth and development from birth to three years of age.
  • Have a good understanding of the Creative Curr., Teaching Strategies GOLD and best practices.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of community resources and how to gain access to them.
  • Have the ability to coach and mentor a diverse group of teachers in early childhood practices.
  • Possess management skills that include:
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Team oriented while also leading by example.
    • Knowledge and ability to design appropriate learning environments for young children.
    • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
    • Ability to maintain records and reports on young children as well as teaching personnel.
    • Ability to reinforce health and safety standards in classrooms.
    • Attention to details.
  • Possess supervisory skills related to child care management which include:
    • Demonstrated ability to monitor and evaluate child development personnel.
    • Ability to make sound decisions related to early childhood best practices.
    • Ability to provide guidance to staff regarding curriculum planning and implementation.
    • Ability to model appropriate early childhood expectations to staff.
    • Ability to model and teach families how to interact with babies as well as young children.
Job Responsibilities
  • Oversees the health and well being of all children.
  • Maintains up to date documentation and paperwork.
  • Provides classroom coverage to ensure proper teacher-child ratios.
  • Coach and mentors teaching staff, giving developmentally appropriate recommendations.
  • Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate infant & toddler program.
  • Ensures classroom teaching teams complete screenings and assessments on time.
  • Schedules reflective supervision meetings with teachers individually and collectively as a team.
  • Reports directly to the Director of Family Support Services concerns related to the service area.
  • Provides positive parenting tips and strategies to families.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and get up & down off the floor.
  • Participates in MFN meetings and training.
  • Ensures teachers have access to the TSG online system, receive training, and utilize the curriculum to fidelity

  • The Agencys core hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
