Responsibilities:

  • Patient Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess patients' visual acuity, depth perception, peripheral vision, and eye muscle function. Identify and diagnose eye-related disorders and diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop tailored treatment plans based on accurate diagnoses, considering patients' medical histories, lifestyle, and unique eye health needs. Prescribe medications, corrective lenses, and other therapeutic measures when necessary.
  • Surgical Interventions: Perform ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract extraction, LASIK, refractive surgeries, and other advanced procedures, ensuring the highest standard of safety and precision.
  • Disease Management: Monitor and manage chronic eye conditions through regular follow-up visits, adjusting treatment plans as required to optimize patient outcomes and prevent complications.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay informed about the latest advancements in ophthalmic research, treatment modalities, and surgical techniques. Integrate evidence-based practices into patient care and contribute to the advancement of the field through clinical research and publications.
  • Patient Education: Communicate effectively with patients, explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and expected outcomes. Educate patients on preventive eye care measures and lifestyle modifications to maintain healthy vision.
  • Collaborative Approach: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, and medical staff, to ensure coordinated patient care and foster a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Medical Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting examinations, treatments, and procedures performed in compliance with regulatory standards and medical best practices.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of ophthalmology.
Requirements:
  • Medical Degree: Possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Ophthalmology Residency: Completed a comprehensive ophthalmology residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Board Certification: Board-certified or board-eligible in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) or the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology (AOBOO).
  • State Licensure: Hold a valid and unrestricted medical license to practice as an Ophthalmologist in the state where the position is located.
  • Surgical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience and competence in performing ophthalmic surgeries and procedures.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients, colleagues, and medical staff.
