Job Location: Sylva - Sylva, NC

Description

This individual is responsible for providing chair-side doctor assistance, performing diagnostic tests as required by physicians, and administering treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician.

Greets and escorts patients to appropriate locations

Communicates to patient what to expect from technician and physician

Performs initial portion of visual examination

Completes a detailed and accurate patient history including past medical history, family medical history, medication history, social history, and review of systems

Obtain patient’s chief complaint and demonstrate ability to accurately record data in electronic medical record ensuring documentation correlates to primary diagnosis

Perform accurate refractometry

Perform accurate tonometry including applanation, tonopen, and ICARE for children

Administering of appropriate eye drops per physicians orders

Maintains patient workflow within the clinic

Transcribes information to medical record as physician orally dictates findings

Assists in minor procedures in minor OR and Yag lasers

Assists in preparing prescriptions given to patient by physician and ensures prescription information is recorded in medical record

Provides both oral and written information to patient

Posts charges and primary diagnosis in electronic medical records

Assists patient in scheduling follow up appointments and appointments needed for future diagnostic testing, coordinating both appointments if needed

Accurately documents any phone conversation with patient in electronic medical record in accordance to office policy

Cleaning of patient exam rooms in relation to testing and equipment.

Verify expiration dates of medications and supplies and follow-up as appropriate and in accordance with established guidelines and policies.

Will train promising candidates, however, the first 2 weeks of training will be at our Asheville office

Qualifications


Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Graduation in accredited school of medical assisting/ophthalmic assisting or one-year experience in medical office environment. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Technician preferred.

Essential Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Positive team member. Strong organization with attention to detail. Demonstrated computer literacy.

Machine, Equipment and Work Aids: Computer, printer, copier, telephone, FAX, occluder, slit lamp, tonometer, phoropter, multiple pieces of diagnostic equipment

Work Environment: Subject to busy Practice requiring above average ability to prioritize and organize.

Physical Requirements: Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over telephone. Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone. Vision: Requires normal color vision and depth perception. Requires visual acuity correctable to 20/20. Must be able to read information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability including sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, sitting, walking, and squatting, with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Requires exposure to communicable diseases and/ or bodily fluids.
