Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is Hiring a Groundskeeper Near Asheville, NC

ASHEVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

JOB TITLE: Groundskeeper

REPORTS TO: Visitor Center Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Lenoir-Rhyne University, and the Asheville Visitor Center share a building located at 36 Montford Ave. in downtown Asheville. We’re looking for a motivated and responsible individual to keep the outside areas of our property clean and safe.

This position is part-time and most weeks will work 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), 4 hours per day. The hours of work are 7:30AM – 11:30AM.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The primary responsibility of the Goundskeeper is to remove trash from our parking lot and landscaped areas. The Groundskeeper will ensure all outside areas are clean, swept and safe for staff and visitors to the Asheville Visitor Center. Arriving in the morning, the Groundskeeper will also be the first employee to notice any issues that need to be addressed and will either take care of these items or report to their supervisor. Some landscaping work will be required; however, the grounds are maintained by a landscaping company which performs routine tasks such as mowing and hedge trimming.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

The secondary responsibility of the Groundskeeper is light maintenance work inside our building. On days that primary responsibilities are completed before the end of the 4-hour shift, the Groundskeeper will assist with activities inside the building such as replacing light bulbs, light carpentry, painting, and organizing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a high standard for cleanliness and an eye for detail. Must possess great time management skills. Must have good communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

The successful employee will be a self-starter who takes pride in the quality of their work. We’re looking for someone who is positive, flexible and has a can-do attitude.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

There is frequent contact with the staff of the Asheville Chamber and Lenoir-Rhyne University and with visitors of the Asheville Visitor Center. This position also interacts with Asheville Chamber members and Lenoir-Rhyne University graduate students.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT:

This position must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. A free range of motion is required, including twisting, bending, stooping and climbing on ladders.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This position requires 4 working hours per day, 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM, three days per week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This position is non-exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

COMPENSATION:

The compensation for this position is $20.00 per hour.
