Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is Hiring a Volunteer Administrative Support Member Near Ashburn, VA

Administrative Service members are the backbone of the AVFRD, providing the non-emergency services that support the daily operations and mission of the department. AVFRD needs individuals to lead and assist in many areas and with many jobs, including:

  • Building and Equipment Maintenance: Groundskeepers, Maintenance Agreements Coordinator
  • Community Relations and Education: Neighborhood Liaisons, School Coordinators, Station Tour Guides
  • Financial and Document Management: Scholarship Manager, Historians, Record Keepers, Bookkeeper, Database Administrator
  • Fundraising: Grant Writers, Event Planners/Project Managers, Corporate Sponsor Seekers
  • Publicity and Marketing: Writers, Graphic Designers, Media Relations Liaison, Video and Multimedia Specialists
  • Recruitment and Membership: Volunteer Coordinators, Recruitment Activities Coordinator, Retention/Appreciation Event Planners, Awards and Recognition Manager, Survey Coordinator

We do most of our non-operations work through a committee structure. Getting involved in a committee is the best way to engage on the support services side, and for our operational members to give a little bit more of their time and unique talents to the mission of our company. Our committees include but are not limited to:

  • Community Outreach
  • Operational Support
  • Recruitment & Retention
  • Revenue
  • Special Services
  • Technology

Minimum Position Requirements

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Successfully complete the application process to include:
    • A criminal history record check, including fingerprinting
    • Driving record check 
    • Online training courses
  • Maintain the personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by AVFRD (if applicable)
  • Complete the annual physical scheduled and paid for by Loudoun County Combined Fire Rescue System (if applicable)

CPR certification is available for all administrative members.

The Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (AVFRD) is committed to protecting the lives and property of Ashburn and Loudoun County residents and visitors by providing the best possible fire, rescue, emergency and medical response services. AVFRD volunteers respond to calls from Station 6 in Ashburn and Station 22 in Lansdowne. AVFRD is part of a combination volunteer and career system; Volunteers are on duty at both stations between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. to staff a total of two fire engines, one truck/tower and two ambulances each night while Loudoun County career personnel provide day-side coverage. Whether its a medical emergency, a car accident or a house fire, AVFRD answers your calls for help. Through continuous education and training, were prepared when you need us. We work to educate the public on fire and accident prevention. We host several community activities pancake breakfasts, Open Houses and our annual Santa Parade as well as numerous fundraising events. We also participate in and provide stand-by services at various community activities such as sporting events, races, parades, fairs, concerts and fireworks displays. AVFRD is always looking for hardworking and dedicated individuals to join our team as firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or administrative (the support team) members.
